i talk a lot of shit about how dire the state of the world is, but sometimes headlines like this make me somewhat thankful that i’m living through this time in history
Is it just me or have both campaigns been weirdly silent on talking about Trump’s term as president? Like you’d think there’d be a lot more talking about specifics about when he was president to attack or defend
To make a quick guess. The democrats aren’t doing it because they’ve had four years to undo the damage but haven’t. Like how can you attack him over four years of deregulation when you haven’t reinstated hardly any of those regulations? Etc. with a lot of other things from when he was president. The republicans aren’t talking about his first term because well he lost the reelection campaign so obviously something was wrong and other time bombs from that first term are starting to explode such the listeria outbreak. Drawing attention to it opens the door for attacks despite democrats not doing much of anything to undo his presidential agenda.
We never do. He wasn’t speaking theoretically, the politics of the 1970s heavily influenced and inspired his writing. Trump is Bush Jr. is Reagan is Nixon. People asked at the time if the eponymous Clone Wars that Palpatine deliberately stokes and worsens to justify his own power grabs was inspired by the War on Terror; George Lucas responded that it was actually inspired by Vietnam.
To quote Lucas himself, it’s like poetry, it rhymes.
These people used the terms “cultural marxism”, “The Great Awokening” and “woke propaganda” unironically
Despite the fact that they are unable to actually define any of them
This entire book is just them pointing out every problem the US has and then giving a right wing populist solution that will literally just make it worse
I thought they were at least trying to sound objective or scholarly but this is literally a phantasm fueled brain-fart
i love all the predictions like “lol we’re gonna find out through supernatural XD” and i wake up and TURNS OUT we’re finding out because all my mutuals are reblogging and posting variations of “queer ppl do not kill yourself” which. jesus ok.
I woke up and checked things and started to spiral.
And then I took a deep breath.
Okay kids. It’s time to listen to your organizer elders.
I don’t care if every call is reversed and she wins by 30 electoral points.
Get involved. Do one thing to make the world better: mutual aid, volunteer, join your local political groups, read to kids, go to community groups.
Survival on this blue spinning ball means coalition building. It means accepting you save the world by doing what you are good at and sharing it with others.
It means to stop looking for saviors in your political choices, and also not crucifying them. It means getting away from political purity and ideology and fucking working toward the next one and the next one.
Political change is different than political theater. It takes work. So much work. And if you are tired, tap out, but don’t leave the game.
Guess what happened tonight?
The first openly Trans woman was elected to congress.
2 black women are serving together in the senate.
It is ugly and it sucks and we need to take a breath, take a nap, and then get up off the mat.
We can do better.
But we gotta do it together.
Wallow as you need but turn that emotion into fuel. Canada, too.
I’m not in the US, but we also recently had a shit of an election. I needed this post.
Come together. The more of us there are, the more we can tap someone else in when we need a break.
