We need to more tightly scope what we use the term “AI” (Artificial Intelligence) for.
In my opinion, and that of anyone who’s seen the hallucinations that pop up when you try to search for something or get customer support, there is no such thing as an Artificially Intelligent being, as of now. Humanity still has not invented such a thing.
Marketing has managed to widen what the term is used for so much that they had to invent an all new term, AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) to cover only what was once just called AI.
I think we need to return to the good old days when only the type of “AI” typically depicted in sci-fi media was called AI and not any of the basic automation that we have already had for over a decade that they decided to rebrand to get on the hype train.
By allowing the term AI to be applied to anything and everything we are helping grifters like Sam Altman to cover up the nature of the fraudulent house of cards that this whole craze is.
