rusty cleaver with wood handleALT

found this obvious murder weapon way out in the desert so now i get to do one of those tiktok restoration videos but in jpeg yayyyy

got my cheapy vice sorta temporarily set up for this

rusty blade being held in a vice thats attached to a steel pole in the ground ALT

since i burned the shit out of my hand while lighting the forge, im gonna start with this knife today since i shouldn’t hammer with my burned hand. got the handle off and most of the rust sanded off

the blade is not rusty anymore and the handles are off and in my hand with the blade so you can see the handles only have holes in the top and bottom but the tang of the blade has holes in top bottom and middleALT

its super funny to me that the handles have two holes, but the tang has three. im p sure that means either that this was handmade, or that its already been restored once. the middle hole is bigger tho so I’m thinking handmade by a beginner maybe? idk still totally sure it was involved in the commission of a crime cuz it was way out in the desert. we love to destroy evidence yay ^_^

found this 2x4 in the desert just now. if i can get a couple of clean slices it seems fitting to use desert found wood for the handle of the desert found cleaver

unrusted cleaver without a handle on an old sun bleached 2 by 4ALT

i got scales for the handle cut and drilled and test fit and it all looks good :)

cleaver with two slats of two by four cut for handles and 3/16ths steel rods pinning the handle pieces to the tang of the blade, it rests on an upside down red bucketALT

next step is to epoxy and clamp the scales on there, but im gonna wait till after the wind dies down cuz its supposed to get bad today.

this way tho the epoxy will be drying overnight and in the morning rather than in the hottest part of the day where it might dry too fast and crack so that works out

bladesmith shibari

cleaver in the vice, the handle is epoxyd on and clamped down with a bunch of c clampsALT

now we wait about 72 hours

cleaver held in my hand, the handle is starting to look like a handleALT

not done yet but i gotta wait for the angle grinder battery to charge again so progress report. handle is grinding down nice. gonna have to slop some wood filler in where one of the pins cracked the wood a lil tho

Yayy!!!!
