obviously this is not the largest problem with the world’s most influential dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. but it really is amazing how little political will the US government has for broadly popular measures that would literally cost less money to implement than doing the same thing

I was reading the Wikipedia article for “abolition of the United States penny” and the arguments against section was like “it costs too much money, nobody uses it, if you consider opportunity cost you are effectively Losing Money if you do use it,” etc etc

and then the arguments for section was “a poll in 2006 showed a slim majority of citizens think the penny is useful” and “the zinc lobby said we should keep it around, but replace zinc with a cheaper metal.” the ZINC LOBBY says we should STOP MAKING PENNIES OUT OF COPPER AND ZINC. what are we DOING
