welcome to the rabbit hole that is esoteric programming languages, we have:
don’t forget:
- a language based on the constructed (but non-programming) language toki pona
- a language where instead of writing instructions in text you need to bake them into abstract art (video about it)
- a language whose rules change every day (video)
- languages in 2D (video), 3D, 4D, and infinite dimensions (video) instead of our regular 1D programming languages
- other 2D languages where you program by drawing up a railway system or controlling an ant colony or designing a Mario-style level (video on MarioLANG here, I’ve had fun trying to code in it)
- a language for necromancers where programs are written as directions on summoning undead creatures to assist with computations (video)
- a language that has no idea what your program is supposed to do and just always throws errors
- a language that runs music as code (video)
thank you @obfuscatedtruttle1 (youtube page here) for all these videos! no activity on that account for a year but tagging just in case. the youtube channel is still active though :]
if you want to try creating a program in
anymost of these languages and more, here’s a free online interpreter here where you can select a language and get going right away.and here’s some snippets from my brief trip into the Esolang Wiki to find those links, looking back at languages I’d already encountered as well as finding new ones.
