I’ve had this idea for a while about a burnt-out 30-something lady who made a deal with a spirit as a kid, became a magical girl/witch/other person with powers, but she never lost those abilities as she aged. She has to file taxes, go on dates, keep a job, do all the responsible adult things, but every now and then she gets a call telling her that the kingdom of Sparkleland or whatever is in danger and she has to run off and save the day. It would probably manifest as a parody of girly adventure shows, like My Little Pony and Pretty Cure if they were allowed to swear, but I have a lot of good memories associated with that genre, so it wouldn’t be punching down. It would probably have a message about connecting with your inner child while accepting that things will have to change. It also might have a sapphic romance subplot.

The current placeholder title for this is Butterfly Princess Burnout, just because it sounds good, she has burnout, and I think a butterfly motif would be cool. That, and butterflies having to undergo metamorphosis, which we could make into an allegory for the MC’s inability to grow up, even when she tries. Because the thing is, she does try. She wants to be a normal adult. But the magic is still within her, and she has to learn to live with it.
