There are clear antismeitic undertones when it comes to the design of villagers. They all have big noses that look like the typical Jewish caricature, they all are depicted as money hungry traders (their eyes are literally the same color as the money that they fiend for), they have golems that protect their villages which is a clear reference to Jewish folklore of rabbis who would create golems to protect their communities. All of these things I could see as just being a funny nod to Jewish folklore, but there is one thing that clearly sets the intention to harmful rather than funny. The fact they they are clearly viewed as a whole other separate creature that is beneath the player. They are viewed as sub-human and primitive. Notch is a known racist and anti-semite so I’m not really surprised. Since he gave up ownership though, villagers have become a staple of our childhoods and aren’t harmful at all. They are an iconic part of Minecraft and the fact that we can derive so much joy and togetherness from playing this incredibly wholesome game together goes to show that we as a community have left behind notch’s hateful views and created a beautiful community in spite of it. I think villagers shouldn’t be changed becausethat’s letting notch win. The fact that we as a community enjoy the game and treat villagers as a fun quirk of the game is proof of our victory over these hateful ideas. Keep having fun everyone. end description]
