Real question are there people out there who dont know how to properly use a firearm I am asking this unironically its very intuitive to me but that may just be because I was raised in appalachia do you guys not know how to reload aim and shoot properly

im aware through cultural osmosis about the basic ruls of gun safety, trigger discipline, point at the ground, etc, the specific mechanisms of it i have an incredible vague idea of but i would probably make an ass of my self if i was handed a gun

(sorry for adding a poll to your post but I think this could use a poll)

Have you ever shot a gun?

yes, and it’s normal to me/I’m comfortable with gun safety

yes, once or twice

no, but I’ve seen them/friends who do/held one/etc

no, I have never seen a gun up close in real life

I feel like this poll is missing the option that will most accurately describe the experience of the vast majority of non-americans, namely “due to guns being illegal in my country, the only time I have ever seen one is in the hands of an armed police officer or in media but I am frankly overly familiar with gun safety measures through cultural osmosis from Americans who won’t shut up about them”

Are guns actually illegal in your country, or do they just require a licence and a lot more rules than in certain other places? Because I’m British and I’ve fired (small, .22) rifles; my sister fired a shotgun once but it made her cry so I didn’t try. I fired an air rifle at Guide/Scout camp (but that was before Dunblane, so, uh, the rules were a teensy bit different in those days I imagine). Never seen a real handgun though. I am not a good shot. My sister is.

I have a reasonable awareness of firearm safety from being around them, could reload a bolt-action rifle and whatever you call a very basic shotgun, once had to call the police to come and dispose of a shoebox of miscellaneous very old ammunition I found in a barn. This is very much not a typical level of firearms familiarity for a British person.

Only time I’ve actually been a bit nervous about guns was seeing the ‘gun-free zone’ signs on primary schools in Central America.
