Artists make art and then either are paid for it by an employer, or sell the art themselves. Either way, they are selling their labor-power to support themselves. That, by definition, makes them working class. If you dismiss artists as “petit-bourgeois” because the self-employed ones own their own drawing supplies, either your argument is bad or petit-bourgeois is a fucking useless term that primarily serves to divide the working class, or both
