gamecube was the best designed controller of all time exclusively for the button cluster that gave you easy thumb roll access to all buttons but also gave you the a button as a thumb rest (because it’s the one you press the most) and took into account the frequency with which each button gets pressed in its design rather than doing the stupid diamond design that gives no button priority and rests your thumb in the shitty blank space between buttons
The Diamond Button Layout Is The Bleeding Stump Where Form Cut Function’s Head Off
BTW i was wrong about this but in a cool way where it reveals somthing. gamecube controller was best Because it was on gamecube, because it could only be used for gamecube games that in turn could ideally rely on and take advantage of its unique layout and the design assumptions made by it. for a game where you really do press a the most and all the other shit i said the gamecube layout is best, BUT as consoles became less and less distinct from each other and games werent necessarily made for a specific console a standardized layout became necessary and good and while i still believe the button diamond is never gonna feel good as the gamecube cluster within its context, claiming that it was a matter of form over function was wrong of me because like. its not. this post has been an albatross around my neck ever since i realized i was wrong so i periodically come in and refine my understanding of why i was wrong as like a pain ritual/attempt to mitigate how stupid i look online
