One of my favourite ludicrous discourses on here, now way past its heyday: “Gay men and lesbian women have monosexual privilege” vs. “Bi people have straight-passing privilege”. People tore each other to shreds over this.

If you read carefully what each side was screaming, they were actually both saying the same: “I am literally oppressed for my sexuality, stop calling my sexuality a privilege.” Which is fair! But people were (still are tbh) so enraptured by privilege theory that the only way they could express this totally fair demand was by not granting the same grace they were expecting for themselves to their opponents. Recognising that privilege as a framework was insufficient or sometimes even counterproductive was entirely out of the question.
