steven universe will never be beaten as the funniest Media Phenomenon. it had an adult fanbase who were largely incapable of parsing basic interactions between colorful cartoon characters designed for children. they thought being attracted to short people made you a pedophile. there were people genuinely surprised and angry that the writers lied in response to a question that would have spoiled the main plot twist of the show. fascinating stuff all around
