Okay this is really bugging me but “atomic” was specifically a TWENTIETH century science fiction adjective; fuck, “atomic ashtrays” was even specifically an Asimov thing in Foundation. Science wasn’t even completely 100% convinced that atoms existed as anything except a bookkeeping trick for chemists until the beginning of the 20th century!
