Fun fact: Government subsidies are required to make many industries profitable. Your taxes go to pay farm and chemical company owners who frequently produce more than can reasonably be consumed or preserved and must destroy product in order to keep profitable subsidies flowing in. Corn and grain are put to the torch, animals slaughtered and left to rot, and milk and chemicals poured down the drain because they’d rather destroy an excess than allow someone to have it for less than a 800% markup. It’s one of many reasons why we can’t “vote with our dollar” out of climate crisis or inequity. We must do more than petition our corrupt government. Act up. Act out. Disobey. Take action, even if it seems fruitless. Only through action will we create the change we need.
