IIRC shortly after this in early 2023 China made a policy to make it harder to get HRT, and there’s not comprehensive protections against discrimination based on sexuality or transness. certainly many lgbt activists in China still report a lot of discrimination and opposition from the government which is increasingly taking a conservative “traditional family values” approach to social issues.
none of this is to say like oh rah rah usa. Just that, in both the USA and China, the struggle for lgbt rights is far from over. portraying China as a monolithic yaass unproblematic trans-friendly utopia minimizes the discrimination chinese trans ppl face and the massive effort of lgbt activists in china. the fight for human rights isn’t over in the usa or china
