listen fuck biden i hate him too but he DID sign executive orders for all this and they are really really easy to look up

  • roe v wade (abortion access) - july 2022
  • student loan debt - august 2022 (he also cancelled another 5 Billion dollars in student loan debt literally two days ago, jan 19 2024)
  • COVID - at least fucking TEN of them, within his first TWO DAYS of being in office, including vaccination mandates and improvement for the supply chain of manufacturing masks and other PPE
  • climate issues - literally the first day of his presidency
  • BLM - also literally the first day of his presidency
  • school shootings - march 2023
  • hawaii - august 2023

the tweet is, at best, someone who didn’t do research and at worst it’s inflammatory misinfo designed to demoralize

I was looking through the reblog graph to see where OP got a ton of views for this, trying to at least flag down the people who had managed to really boost it. I saw @seananmcguire and had a moment of “…surely not. but none of us are immune to… I’m gonna click through and CHECK.”

and hallelujah, Seanan McGuire was of course not boosting this absolute nest of lies! @stirdrawsandreblaws had debunked all the added arguments! thank you!

here’s another very important point that I need everyone to fucking have access to:

THE ORIGINAL TWEET IS ALSO UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY FALSE.

IT IS 100% AN OUTRIGHT LIE.

Biden literally never, ever signed an executive order, bypassing Congress, to immediately send extra ammunition to Israel.

The claim that Biden signed an executive order sending ammunition to Israel is false.

The Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, had approved the sale of ammunition to Israel twice before this completely unsourced tweet came out.

(Blinken is not Biden. Biden is the President.

I’m just not sure how much people are tracking this shit, with this level of disinformation going around.)

As this article explains: normally, Congress is in charge of approving big sales of ammunition or equipment to other governments.

But the State Department has the option to bypass Congress, sort of, IF it “determines and provides detailed justification to Congress that an emergency exists that requires the immediate sale" of whatever, to whomever.

So, in early December, the State Department approved a provisional sale of 120mm anti-tank cartridges to Israel, and notified Congress that it had to approve or reject the sale. Then at the end of December, it did the same for 155mm artillery projectiles.

BUT! the same law that gives them that power says the Secretary of State’s “consent for immediate emergency transfers to Japan, Australia, South Korea, Israel, New Zealand, or any NATO member state shall not become effective until 15 days following the submission of that consent, and Congress may enact a joint resolution within that period prohibiting the transfer.

So, even if Blinken decides to “immediately” sell ammo to Israel (or Australia, or Japan, or….), Congress still has more than two weeks to say, “No, no you don’t.”

There is no such thing as an immediate, emergency sale of ammunition from the U.S. to Israel.

(There’s especially not such a thing as an immediate, emergency DONATION of ammo, which is what it always sounds like people mean - at least to me, it does.)

There’s no such thing as the President getting to just write an executive order changing that.

(At least not under Biden. Trump pulled that kind of shit all day long. I STILL remember him kicking trans people back out of the military VIA A FUCKING TWEET.)

More debunking of bad claims!
