starlightomatic:

israel gave 1.1 residents in northern gaza 24 hours to evacuate. evacuate where? is southern gaza supposed to suddenly take in 1.1 million people? and what if you can’t evacuate? how do you evacuate an entire hospital? how do you evacuate icu patients? never mind that even if not for that, the hospital is going to run out of electricity in a few days. what happens then?

and what do you do when you run out of water? when you’ve conserved all you can, not showering and not boiling anything, but you’re down to your last drop of water to drink? and there’s none at the store in bottles to buy, and the whole time, your home might get bombed. what are you supposed to do?

the stories i’ve heard of what it’s like in gaza right now remind me of eicha, the book of lamentations, which jews read every year on the day we mourn the destruction of jerusalem. the desperation and mourning. the siege. the despair.

this is gaza.

everyone north of the blue line is supposed to move south of it. in 24 hours. and this “warning” was given around 24 hours ago. but already earlier today, israel’s ground invasion began.

what are gazans supposed to do?

i don’t pretend to know the answers, but i know this isn’t it.
