cultural christians are some of my least favorite fucking people. “putting aside religion temporarily (or forever haha wink wink)” just say you don’t know what Taoism or the Bear Dance is and shut up

you are not against organized religion you are against Americanized evangelical Christianity. you are not against organized religion you just think all religion is bad because you had a bad experience with Christianity. join the club. it’s 2024 everyone has religious trauma but it’s time to own up to the fact that your opinions about religion are racist as fuck and you should read the fucking vedas about it or something because this is soooo tiring

#ok but you have to account for county#like in india#the hindu nationalists are fuckin wild man#but in the american context i agree#a lot of american atheists critique of organized religion is kinda racist under the surface

ohhhh my godddd

no. you do Not have to account for country. i am not saying that hindu nationalism is less or more #problematic than christian settler-imperialism. this post is not saying that americanized christianity is somehow unique in being bad sometimes. religion has always been used as a weapon against humans. the great buddhist persecution was done in the name of taoism for fuck’s sake.

this is specifically about the fact that a lot of people claim to hate religion have no fucking meaningful knowledge of religion and that doing this is racist. it isn’t “kinda” racist. it is fully racist to claim you hate “organized” religion when you can’t even name 2 major buddhist sects. it is fully racist to claim you hate “organized” religion but you don’t know how to talk about the intersections and importance of the gospel to black americans and historically black slaves.

you know what’s actually kinda racist under the surface? trying to pretend that you “have to account for country” and bringing up hindu nationalism as a whataboutism because you missed the point so bad.
