honestly, even if someone is “faking” a disability, there IS something wrong that’s going unnoticed/ignored.
maybe no one is paying attention to what’s *actually* going on with them and they’re desperate for help.
maybe they need a break and no one will give them one without an extreme reason – like calling into work sick when you’re not sick because you’re exhausted, except the problem is more long-term.
think about it. someone has to be doing really bad to go out of their way to fake a physical disability.
what they’re actually doing is screaming that they need help and they don’t know how to get it.
for example, I’m multiply disabled. but for a while, my depression was the reason i wasn’t able to get up and around. now, when you tell people that you can’t do anything because you’re depressed, they don’t care. they see it as a moral failure. so I started telling people that my other disabilities were causing it – they still hounded my ass about not doing enough, but i was no longer told “it’s just because I didn’t WANT to do anything.” I wasn’t faking a disability, but I WAS exaggerating my symptoms.
unfortunately, people still don’t take you seriously about physical health issues. they’re still gonna tell you to “push past it.”
but sometimes you just want people to know that you’re not choosing to be in a rough spot. you want slightly less judgment from everyone. yeah, you won’t get treated much better, but knowing that everyone thinks that you’re doing bad on purpose wears on you.
if you feel the need to fake a disability, there’s something going on with your mental health. and when your mental health is bad, it’s disabling.
so screaming at people about “faking disabilities” is redundant.

I make $784 a month on disability, please consider helping a disabled person afford gas, food, & necessities for the month! Our food stamps only last us a week now and we don’t get them until the 19th.
I currently have $1 in my account; usually I don’t run out of money that quick but I had a LOT of extra expenses this month. My mother also recently lost her job of 40 years due to having health issues and having to call in too often. She is currently pulling money out of savings to survive until we figure something else out.
