you guys usamericans have dinner at like 6-7 pm and the older they get the earlier they wanna eat their dinner. ive heard oral tales of dinners as early as 3 pm. ive been in this barbarian land for 10 years so ive adapted to their savage culture and simply go along with the primitive ritual of early dinner when required to so they accept me as one of their tribe, but i forget the civilized latinoamerica doesn’t know about this exotic nonsense custom
How are you not absolutely ravenous by 7 pm?
Merienda
Yeah, a snack ain’t gonna cover it if I had lunch at noon and now it’s 7. I’d lose my mind.
I think youre underestimating the size meriendas can be, its not just a small snack lmao
Like, it can be light if youre not hungry, but it can also be a dish on itself if you want
(But its not dinner lmao)
That’s literally dinner!
I mean, but you all eat sth afterwards then, right? Like, what do you all call the last dish of the day?
Because we translate our ‘cena’ as 'dinner’, which would be a main savory dish, while the 'merienda’ can be light or heavy depending on how hungry you are (and can be sweet or savory food).
The last dish of the day is dinner. That’s it.
Okay, so I’ll use myself as an example:
I have breakfast at 9:00 A.M. I have lunch at 1:00 P.M. I have dinner at 6:00 P.M. Sometimes I’ll have a snack before bed or a midnight snack. Like toast, a granola bar, a fruit cup.
I genuinely don’t know anyone who has dinner any later than 7:00 P.M. If someone invited me to an 8:00 P.M., I’d make sure to have either a large or late lunch to be able to last that long. Because we’re talking like 7 hours between lunch and dinner at that point.
Ohhhhhh, yeah the 'midnight snack’ thing makes more sense now 😭
Here, my routine for example would be:
Breakfast at 8 or 9am too, then lunch around 1-2pm. After that, the merienda can be any time around 5 and 8pm (although I usually have it around 7pm), with some toasts or sandwiches and coffee (or fruit too, if I have any lmao). Lastly, I have dinner at 11-12pm, going to sleep an hour after. <- I’d say people usually has dinner around 10pm here tho, I eat rather late

You guys have dinner?
A heavy merienda eater, I see
Breakfast: (Ideally cold) milk and bread
Lunch: Something that doesn’t make me vomit, drink soda or peach juice and bread if it’s possible
