This seems to be the only time most thin people ever even see a glimpse of how deadly and widespread the oppression of fat people is. But usually the epiphany never actually happens. They just stay at the level of “Wow, everyone wants to be skinny SO bad! And some people even hurt themselves to become skinny….because being skinny is so important to people. Huh…π€ Eh, probably not important. Let’s go shopping at a store that doesn’t sell clothes to fat people!π” I am begging people to get to the next level of the equation and finally see the fatphobia all around them that their fat friends and family members have been forced to endure their entire lives but never talked about before. Because we live in a world where oppressing fat people is that normalized and accepted. Not even fat people talk about fatphobia because the bigoted view that our existence is a “blight” on society is ingrained into us from the day we’re born.
Please don’t stop at the few downsides thin people have to their thin privilege (downsides that fat people also experience but at a worse rate). Please don’t stop thinking at solely the level of how fatphobia affects you. Please. Please care about us fat people who are actually being killed and mutilated and beaten and starved. Not just threatened with the potential. Fat people are literally being killed and murdered every day because of fatphobia, and no change will ever be made until people start talking about it.
