question for people that ship aro characters but say pro-shipers dni in their bio

Whats it like to be a hypocrite

What if your aromantic and ship your Aro ocs (romantically or non romantically speaking) does that still count?

romantically yes non romantically no

also just because someone is aro/ace doesn’t mean they can’t be aphobic

You can be aro and think that romantic love is what makes us human or some bullshit like that

If you think shiping aro characters of any kind in a romantic way is ok please block me

are you aware that it’s fiction. Okay what about shipping canonically straight characters in gay relationships. Is that heterophobic. What about gay characters shipped with the opposite sex/gender. Is that homophobic. What about a cis guy portrayed as a trans guy in a fic. Is that phobic.
And since you ask so nicely, I will block you as soon as you answer this

and if anyone read this thinks shipping characters in not okay, please block me.

-sincerely, an aroallo person who has faced a lot of aphobia (as you can guess, being aroallo)

yes I am aware that it’s fiction I’m also against straight/cis characters getting turned gay/trans by a Fandom

I never said it’s not ok to ship characters if that’s what you like to do then go off

I don’t want anyone’s representation to be removed no matter what I just used aro people in my original post because I see them get there representation removed by Fandoms the most out of anyone

has my autistic brain caused me to misread. To make it clear, I’m saying that it’s okay to ship a character no matter what their canonical stuff is. Do you agree with that? You’re saying fandom shouldn’t change a character’s identity. I agree. What I mean is that we should be like “yeah this person is actually aroace but let’s imagine if they were not “ and we should not be like “yeah this character is aroace but I don’t think so lol and here is a ship that is definitely canon coded”

is this making sense? I think respecting the character’s canon and having headcanons can co exist as long as you can admit that it’s a headcanon/fanon. Is this making sense

I agree with your last point yes headcanons and Canon can co exist and should but if your headcanon takes away rep from ANYONE and it gets big enough it can cause people to feel like they don’t belong in life and can genuinely cause depression for some and that goes for shipping race disabilities etc

but if someone says “this character is this and this but let’s imagine they were and this and this happened”. How is that harmful? They are acknowledging the content, just not engaging with it personally

that in itself isn’t harmful its if that idea gets to big and loses the fact that we’re looking at a what if

If it was possible for that headcanon to not lose the fact that it’s a very clearly a what if I would personally not have a problem with it but because the internet is well the internet it will lose the fact that it’s a what if and become so big that it would be better if it never existed because of how harmful it has become

Do both have a point?

Yes, nuance is a thing that exists here

No, nuance exists but it isn’t large enough to be meaningful

No, there is no nuance here
