so i was fully prepared to rip into Tumblr for trying to pull its “queerest place on the internet” rainbow capitalism bullshit again this year… but it’s actually feeling kind of disconcerting that it doesn’t seem like they’ve actually done anything for Pride, as far as i can tell…
like, to be clear, this isn’t me being like “;-; why Tumblr no Pride?”

rainbow capitalism is a cheap and hollow marketing ploy, but companies suddenly not doing it this year - especially ones like Tumblr who have at least tried to make it a part of their brand - isn’t a great sign, either.
it’s like when there’s no bugs in an area of nature. Sure, some of em can be annoying or even dangerous when present, but the lack of them is a much worse sign.
i feel that rainbow capitalism should mostly just be seen as the canary in the coal mine for lgbt safety, and currently that canary has stopped singing
Wrong it’s sex workers it’s always been sex workers. I got into politics right before sesta/fosta and swers were saying it even back then that all this would happen and censorship is a rising issue.
That does of course include trans and specifically Black swers.
Rainbow capitalism is bullshit and yeah it’s a red flag that companies are doing it less and less every year but I think we can say that without further erasing the voices swers from the narrative.
Not seeing rainbows wasn’t the red flag. Propaganda like “save the children” and making sex seem obscene and indecent was. Remember when credit cards started saying they wouldn’t take any O.F transactions?

Our government has made it near impossible for sex workers to exist and they’ve tried to tell us this over and over that the laws being made against them will be the same ones used on everyone else as well.
So, as someone trying to make sure that swers are not erased as being the actual canaries, please pay attention to where I said banks are often declining swers transactions and accounts.
Fuck the tumblr T not being a rainbow this pride and we have to start listening and caring about each other a lot better than we have cuz all the revisionism in the world won’t save us, but solidarity can.
