So these tourists came to a city with a bunch of “tourists go home” “tourists not welcome” graffiti and instead of idk maybe looking into why locals want tourists gone they film the grafiti, post it on tiktok with a caption “wow i feel so welcome” and like comments like these

And then they’re suprised when locals tell them to fuck off

I’m pretty sure the the video was filmed in barcelona (not 100 % because i can’t find it atm) but there are countless people in the comments explaining to this person that locals literally cannot live in their houses because of airbnb and other stupid shit made for tourists. Did the creator acknowledge these comments? No.

#yes the graffiti is in barcelona!#and the comments are full of people saying to suck it up and that we need their money because ‘we dont live a comfortable life’#the video just went right over peoples head and they genuinely didnt understand#that the housing market is severely fucked up in places like bcn#like genuinely the comments in that video make me want to nuke northern europe#other comments include our stunning ‘20% youth unemployment rate’ and how we need their money#when the ppl in service jobs (especially hospitality ones) in tourist heavy areas are severely underpayed and overexploited#and another brilliant comment saying how we have nothing to offer the world except for our sunshine and how again ‘you need our money’#so quite literally northern europeans especially british people can rot in hell when they treat us like their fucking playground

See this is in a way funny because Croatians have a specific issue with the British tourists here to the point where there are articles written about how abhorrent and rude their behavior is.

Of course it’s a class struggle, but acting as if the working class is blameless is absolutely wrong.

And it’s not just a Croatia thing multiple countries have issues with British tourists, be it their behavior or their gentrification it doesn’t matter.

So when we talk about the british and their behavior we are not only talking about the upper class rich people who actually buy property and destroy it here in the mediterrean. We are also talking about young people who come here, expect to be served and treated like they’re gods because they’re tourists and therefore can do whatever they want and who actively destroy property.

Also, I’m going to assume you are british, because you ignored everything else in minglanas comment and also completely ignored the context of this post, but I hope you understand that when we talk about southern europe and specific problems regarding people from northern countries we are talking about southern europe. No one in that post said that british working class is exempt from gentrification. What we are however saying is that British people, who have much higher salaries then us, treat our countries as if they own them and that is an issue.
