this is very much characteristic of a subset of autistic traits that some have and others dont, and some non-autistics have: its called Pervasive Drive for Autonomy (PDA), and basically means that it’s very hard to follow directions if you don’t see the purpose behind them, its mostly seen in children, since children are so tightly controlled without a reasonable purpose.
