A massive pet peeve of mine is when US progressives say shit like “evangelical christians are terrible but so are hardcore atheists”. Like. even if every single atheist was the most insufferable debate bro imaginable, you get how… one of these groups has structural power that they’ve used for more than a century to prop up and direct state violence domestically and imperially. And the other is like. A random subset of normal people that also includes some redditors. These are not equally harmful communities.

I was trying to keep the scope of this limited to traceable institutions currently active in politics, but yeah, as many people have said in the notes, “more than a century” is a pretty big understatement
