I’m pretty sure “making it” as a humanities academic is when they publish all of your important papers as a separate volume and print it on its own. Or those special run volumes where a bunch of your colleagues all write a paper on your pet subject for your 75th birthday or something.
The people who have those are always the real big shots in any given field.
