how do you say “Acht” (how you pronounce the first “a” doesnt matter for this poll)
“act” [akt]
original german: [axt] (/x/ doesn’t exist in english outside ireland/scotland)
“asht” [aʃt]
“aht” [at], [aht]
something else
See Results/x/. voiceless velar fricative. velar is how you have your tongue in with /k/ and /g/.
a fricative is /k/ to /x/ as /t/ is to /s/.
think of how your tongue and mouth is shaped making a /t/ sound, then see how it is when you make an /s/ sound. they’re nearly the exact same. now do that same thing with a /k/ and thats how you get /x/
if you can feel the uvula in the back of ur mouth flap around thats too far back and is a /χ/, not an /x/
pronunciation tips i think 👍
