How come bisexual men get to call themselves gay or bisexual interchangeably, but if bisexual woman calls herself a lesbian, she gets her whole upper body bitten off cartoonishly.
Because TERFs and bioessentialists and others that are similar have created a mentality of people “taking away lesbians” and lesbians and womanhood as this sacred thing that must be protected from those that wanna take away from their space and their “sanctity.” You can see it in the “they are dtealing our lesbians” stuff thrown at trans men, or the “men are trying to invade our spaces” thrown at trans women and trans masc lesbians and multigender lesbians and lesbians who use he pronouns and butches and especially those who fit into multiple of those categories. It stems from exclusionism of that type, the belief that identities need to be policed. They think there is a platonic ideal of lesbian, the cis gold star lesbian. It also connects to some peoples view of bi people as being not really queer, as if theres some like queer test you have to pass to earn being a lesbian, or any other queer identity for that matter see transmedicalists or anti bi sentiment in gay mens spaces(which is rampant too) or people who think ace and aro people are not queer enough.
All of them are fools and all of them are erasing queer history. Lesbian has always included bi people and trans people and there is no perfect platonic ideal, this box you can place around a label, for any queer label. So call yourself whatever you want and change it if you need to because in the end labels are tools, ones we should use for connection not division.
