The City of Atlanta is refusing to count the 116k signatures on the Cop City Referendum petition, denying Atlanta citizens the right to vote on Cop City and the destruction of Weelaunee forest. On Monday, February 5th 2024 Atlanta will be voting on an ordinance for making referendum a clear and fair practice
If you can make it to Atlanta or if you’re registered to vote, please show up and vote yes on Ordinance 34482.
Atlanta City Council take “full council” meetings every two weeks. Liliana Bakhtiari, a queer Muslim woman, put forth Ordinance 34482 (found here) on January 22nd, but the council elected to kick the decision down the road to February 5th. Every other councilperson on this listneeds to be pressured. If you live in or around Atlanta, I strongly encourage you to contact the emails on this list—one, short, personally-written email will do just fine. If you can, feel free to call as well!
What we’re trying to do here is get the councilmen to codify a process for reviewing petitions which will allow the will of the people to be heard. We deserve a referendum!
