“Martyrs” volunteer and go to their death willingly for a cause they believe in. You are not a martyr if your house gets bombed by enemy shelling and you die. You are a casualty of war. Children cannot be martyrs. They cannot consent. Non-combatants caught in the crossfire cannot be martyrs. They are simply innocent victims of someone else’s violence. Do not conflate martyrs and innocents. In no scripture are they considered the same. Their fates are different. It is wrong to call one a martyr when they are an innocent. One is a choice, the other is not.

In Islam, the concept of martyr is different. The actual word, in Arabic, is ‘shaheed’, meaning 'witness’ in the past tense. This is because on the Day of Judgement, they will be asked to testify in 'other people’s cases’. There are many things that can make someone a martyr in Islam. If you die of drowning, you are a shaheed (martyr). If you die of illness (plague), you are a shaheed (martyr). If you are a stillborn, you are a shaheed (martyr). The one used for Palestinians is the criteria listed by a specific hadith that says that they who are killed: 1) without their fortune 2) without their blood 3) without their faith 4) without their family then they are a martyr. Because when we are killed by the occupation, they have taken everything from us, our freedom of faith, and our fortunes (which they are still stealing millions of lbs of gold as they kill us in Ghazzah since Oct. 7), and they have scattered us so we are no longer united.
But no. Instead of asking someone else what we mean in good faith, you evil people want to bother a man who really doesn’t need this shit right now.
