adult life is crazy because you can be going through the most devastating and heartbreaking things while still having to go to work and do the laundry and grocery shopping

#speaking as somebody who does Grief and Death for a living:#the biggest difference between fiction and reality is how mundane grief and heartbreak are#it destroys a part of you on such a deep level that can really never even be conveyed into fiction#but you also have to sign the hospital’s discharge paperwork and call an attorney the next week and organize a caterer for the funeral#and honestly it would be impossible for fiction to capture the bizarre mundaneness of it even if it tried:#it’s the same sun shining on you the next day and the lady at the grocery counter thinks you’re normal and this is just another day for you#there are still newspaper articles about local farmer’s markets and the stock markets are all still open#and you walk in this world like a ghost - doing so many things that feel like an echo of the life you had before whatever happened#(but remember the answer to this: you have people who love you and who will be there for both the dramatic and the mundane heartbreak) ALT
