what does the “refugee from r/196” mean in your bio? did something happen there idk the lore

ozi-uwu:

welll.. sure *sets a book down before setting down reading glasses* let me tell you a story

Once upon a time on Reddit, a horrible place really, but in that bog there were gems. r/196 was one of those gems, a place of trans love, femboy Friday, fanter, hornyposting, and some stupid discourse! It was beautiful, full of queers and fags, ah I remember the wasp discourse, anarcho-stripperism and the other various microcelebritys. But then Reddit decided to be a bitch about its api and extensions that made not only the app much better, but also increased accessibility, and were important for moderation, they decided to charge them ludicrous amounts of money to keep going, obviously meant to shut them down. So a protest was formed, unorganized but something, subreddits would go private, some for a indefinite time others a couple days to hopefully show distaste and also lower their users for a bit, 196 was one of the subreddits that went down until Reddit went back on their decisions. So before the subreddit went down we all said are goodbyes, we wept and mourned, we remembered all of our history our memes. People made decisions on where to go, I personally went here, to tumblr as a lot of our culture is similar. Others went to raddle or other decentralized platforms like fediverse. I remember a post here of the people who moved to raddle saying hi to us on tumblr.

However Reddit never undid there decision, and 196 was left private for a while, here on tumblr we still mourned, however we started posting on the 196 tag, even getting it on trending a couple times. After a while, and discussion of the subreddit it was reopened, and some came back. I didn’t go back, Reddit wasn’t good for me, as there were places like 196, there were also right-wing cesspools everywhere without a lot of ways to get away from them, and tumblr so far has been a much better experience, the only thing being terfs and the occasional rightoid but they are easily blocked, unlike Reddit.

And that is the story of 196

I may have gotten details mixed up as I tell most of this through memory

Now 196 is more than a single subreddit, it spread all across the internet, and I hope my fellows are doing well
