games having fascist or orientalist or conservative themes in the narrative is honestly worse than movies or tv imo because its asking you to actively take part in it, to identify with it without question because ‘its just a game’. and the game in question is a survival horror where youre a civilized white person stranded in some forest or jungle and the cannibalistic ~natives~ are out to savagely murder you so you must make improvised weapons to mow them down en masse because you are playing as that protagonist and its just what you do to win the game

and then you wonder why the 'gamer’ community is so vocally misogynistic, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc

It’s the other way around. Because the “gamer” community is vocally misogynist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. (popular) games are Like That. You don’t get turned racist by a racist game just like you aren’t turned gay by a game where your male PC kisses a guy. But you sure buy racist games if you’re already racist!

You’re underestimating the effects that military propaganda games where you’re an American soldier killing waves of generic brown terrorists can have on desensitizing generations of impressionable kids in middle school to state violence and the justifications of imperialism and war. Bringing up some made up scenario of a game turning someone gay is a completely false equivalence because being gay isn’t an ideology that someone can be indoctrinated into by propaganda . Be serious. A 12 year old isn’t born racist, they’re conditioned into it and popular video games can be a big part of that conditioning that only reinforces itself as they grow older and keep playing these types of games

We all understand the concept of propaganda until someone suggests video games can be it
