If we can agree that making fun of one person’s appearance affects everyone with those traits, we can agree that using ableist remarks to make fun of people affects all disabled people. πŸ‘πŸ»

For example:

“When I make fun of unemployed people I’m not talking about you!!” Yeah. You are.

It’s no different than, say, making fun of someone for their receding hairline right in front of your balding friend.

You’re being a dick.

I keep seeing people use the term “unemployeds.” Describing us all as one class of people. A class of people who are inherently “less mature” than others. I think you can work out for yourself why that’s bad.

How are we calling ourselves leftists while parroting capitalist, classist, ableist, christofascist rhetoric about how “work ethic” is tied to someone’s inherent worth?

I can’t wrap my mind around it.

Interesting how “of course no one on this site fucks” and “virgin” have now also become popular insults on tumblr.

Ableism and aphobia aside – how fucking old are we? You’re telling me you’re old enough and able enough to have a job and have sex, but you’re using insults from 19 year old reddit frat boys from the 2000s?

Yeah, I don’t think being an “unemployed virgin” is what makes you “immature.”

Being an adult and believing that you’re inherently better than entire groups of people based off of morally-neutral differences is the real loser behavior.

Another common insult I see people use is “you clearly don’t leave the house.”

Do I really need to sit and explain to the fucking LEFTISTS that say this shit how that’s both ableist and classist?

You know that there are many reasons that people can’t leave their homes as often as they’d like to, be it disability, lack of transportation, being stuck in an abusive household, etc, and yet….you’re still gonna use that as an insult?

How can you say you support disabled & other marginalized people whenever you continue to use us as scapegoats for your insults?

“You clearly don’t leave the house, unemployed virgin.”

You clearly can’t use your brain for think for a few seconds to come up with a new insult that you haven’t used since high school.

I have a strong feeling that the reason that this post isn’t gaining much traction is because

1. It’s uncomfortable to confront yourself when it comes to biases. It leads to a lot of guilt knowing that your words and actions have consequences that you don’t have to personally experience.

2. Because they would feel like a hypocrite for saying one of these things in the past, and they don’t want to be called out for being “two-faced.”

3. They’re too worried about calling out their mutuals/followers.

or, 4: They think I’m being “too sensitive” and “taking jokes way too seriously.”

It’s okay to learn and grow. It’s what you SHOULD do.

If they were just harmless jokes, then they wouldn’t affect the way people behave towards us in real life.

You are PURPOSEFULLY trying to put a bad name onto people who are unemployed, disabled, or asexual by using us as examples of who the “freaks” are.

You KNOW that insults based off of homophobia, transphobia, racism, antisemitism, fatphobia, sexism, etc reflect on how people think about those groups and how they treat them in real life.

Like how homphobes will call anyone and anything they don’t like as “gay” or “girly” as an insult - they are insisting that being gay or girly is wrong and disgusting.

Your insults about being unemployed, being a virgin, or not leaving the house are no different.

You are claiming that the people who are like that are “bad” and “weird” when you make those “jokes.”

PLEASE LISTEN TO US.
