saying you honest to god think scott pilgrim is a child predator, or worse, that the comic condones scott’s actions, is like one of the fastest ways to tell me you didn’t actually read the comic

like to be clear him dating knives is Bad, when you read the comic and go “what the fuck is up with this sketchy 23 year old” that is the intended reaction,

but like

everyone knows (even scott (as much as scott’s clueless ass can know anything)) that this is just a fake relationship scott isn’t actually invested in, just something he’s going through because of his whole arrested development thing

he never really shows any actual interest in knives at all, is actively disgusted by even the thought of intimacy with her

he ditches her for ramona without a thought the first chance he gets lmao

like yeah it is incredibly shitty and gross all around, thank you for noticing, that’s what the story wants you to notice because it’s part of scott’s character arc of “growing up” and “becoming less of a failure of a human being”

this isn’t a story about how dating highschoolers is cool and everyone should do it, and the reading that scott is a pedophile and the story condones his actions is just straight up not supported by the text,

idk what to tell you maybe stop treating characters in stories like they’re actual people you need to write a callout post about

he wants to be able to say he has a girlfriend but when she tries to kiss him he jumps back, this is volume 1 shit. why does he react like that? could it be because in that moment he is forced to realize he passively encouraged her feelings for him, and that makes him a sketchy older guy taking advantage of a young woman’s feelings? and he doesn’t want to think of himself that way, he’s a chill awesome popular guy!

also to add to this… it’s pretty evident that scott does not see knives as a real relationship, because to him knives is not really… a person. she’s a way for him to recapture the past, high school dating out of high school. the reason why he struggles to break up with her is because he has to acknowledge her as a full human being with thoughts and feelings of her own to do that.

i swear i’m gonna start writing a reading comprehension guide for this comic if people don’t chill this second lmao
