“Good arguments on both sides” actually the way it works is that either you either agree that Pope is the inheritor of the works of St. Peter, whose decisions represent the closest thing a mortal human can attain to being a vessel for the divine will, or you are protestant filth. All those canonized Catholic saints who criticized/opposed popes are Protestant than. The most prominent works of Catholic art are Protestant. There are even Protestant Popes. Iirc popes are the only people allowed to formally oppose the decisions of previous popes, and even then only when the previous Pope has died.
So what we have here is a plural/singular divide, a sort of limit curve of increasing gravitational catholicism towards the singularity that is the one true undeniable Catholic; The Pope.
