as a duel hellsite citizen i feel it is important to bring news from twitter: namely that on this, the exact same day that tumblr starts trialing paywalls, twitter is trialing dislikes
“not public or visible to post author”
“help us understand what … is valuable to the conversation.”
I’m 100% sure twitter won’t abuse this new feature that only they can see anything from and will likely allow them to remove poular posts from a trending tag under the guise of it being disliked a lot which noone can actually prove. What reason could they have to suppress information.
The internet is becoming SO user hostile that I may just give up on it. I’ve lived here for 20+ years, but honestly, returning to the days of yore when I read paper books and only talked about them to the people I saw face to face is starting to look infinitely preferable to what has happened to the formerly lawless and openly globalized information super highway.
