You saying that just gave me flashbacks to that part of reddit culture where somone gets gold out of nowhere and then edits their post/comment to say that exact kind of thing.
Boy am I glad I'm now on tumblr, where such an act is a declaration not of friendship, but of war.
Believe me, that is by far one of the most annoying parts of frontpage Reddit. It’s this strange sort of etiquette where if your post or comment gets popular then you have to act really surprised. It’s like “Edit: OH emGEEE!!!! WoAOW I could have NEEEEEVER expected this to get POPULAR!!!! thX 4 da GOLD xDDD”.
Reddit creates a false sense of community on its website through giving posts “gifts”, an idea that is basically meaningless. The only true emotion Redditors feel is an underlying contempt for everything else.
