#i’ll explain the joke for those that need it #yahrzeit takes place 1 year after shiva #shiva is the week-long mourning for close family members #so its basically a 1 year memoriam #minyan is a quorum of at least 10 jewish adults necessary for certain religious services and ceremonies #traditionally it only counted men but reformists and reconstructionists and whatnot usually include adult women too for minyan #so basically: if there were only 9 of us there to hold the memorial service for my father and we needed a 10th and you showed up #i would rather turn you away than be able to memorialize my own father
