many people were confused about some of my previous posts, so for the sake of clarity i am condensing everything!
tumblr has extremely transphobic moderation practices, often flagging completely innocent posts as explicit, solely for containing trans women in them or mentioning transgenderism. while letting untagged porn in sfw tags (ive literally seen porn tagged as “sfw agere”) and blatent hatespeech, especially twards trans people (just look at the “gender critical” tag) go completely unchecked
recently the CEO of tumblr had a big public hissyfit about people (rightfully) calling him transmysogenistic, going into random trans womens dms to harrass them, and saying that predstrogen saying she “hopes he explodes with hammers and then explodes again and hammers fly everywhere” is a death threat and saying he is calling the FBI on her (repeatedly misgendering her and calling her “it”)
and many bloggers, apon speaking out about it or even making harmless jokes (one trans woman posted a picture of a car and a hammer with the caption “reblog to scare matt” and got nuked for it) and many are very very angry (rightfully) about this whole affair and tumblr in general.
if you would like to look into it i reccomend scrolling the “predstrogen” tag as she is the case most people are talking about at the moment.
So, what can we do? this is clearly an ongoing issue, and, dispite having lost a lawsuit about their transphobic moderation in the past (see : https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21274288-tumblr-nycchr-settlement) its clearly not gonna stop with just user complaints, as staff members are perfectly content to just go scorched earth on users who even so much as lightly poke fun at them
well if you want to help you should contact the human rights commision (i will give clear details further down) ! you dont have to be in the US, nor be an adult to file, and it only takes a few minutes. this is the best and most effective method to fix this, because it hits tumblr where it hurts.
human rights acencies have a lot of legal and financial power and tumblr CAN NOT just ignore them, and given that this will be the seccond time this is happening, the commisions shouldnt be playing nice anymore eaither.
its really important that AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE FILE, and with different examples! while maybe your case might not be enough to prop up a lawsuit on its own, we need to prove a general trend. so every little bit counts!
to respond to another question abt this ive gotten, as for what exactly to report, you should a) write about an act of discrimination youve recieved on tumblr that was eaither administered by a staff member OR that staff refused to give adequate moderation action in
for example : a terf posted some blatent hatespeech targeted twards you, and you reported them, and staff looked at the issue and refused to persecute it.
example 2 : you were unfairly flagged, deleted, or otherwise punished by a staff member and you are queer ( AND the post they banned you for has some kind of tie to your gender, ex : a sfw transition progress photo )
OR b) if you have not personally recieved something like that, please look for other peoples stories (THEY SHOULDNT BE HARD TO FIND, within the last couple of hours trans people have been being banned LEFT AND RIGHT for trying to speak on this. i would reccomend checking some of the tags related to what happened with predstrogen)
and you should describe that incident as best as possible (be sure to disclose that you are speaking for someone else, ideally you should tell the story of someone you know, if possible.) you can also mention any reports you have made twards people posting blatent hatespeech that, opon reveiwing tumblr refused to prosecute dispite it being very obviously against terms of service.
just so nobody gets confused about the filing process, im laying it out in more plain languadge!!
first you should email the SF HRC (san francisco human rights commision), at hrc.info@sfgov.org and say something along these lines :

you can then use a similar script on the written section of the form.
when describing a specific incident, you should attach as many screenshots and links as possible! (for links, include both a live link and an archival link, so take a capture with the internet archive and have that as an alternative, incase a staff member gets petty.)
this should only take a few minutes at most, and it helps alot!

Tumblr has extremely transphobic moderation practices, often flagging completely innocent posts as explicit, solely for containing trans women and/or mentioning transgenderism. Meanwhile, unflagged or mislabeled porn, blatant hate speech, and doxxing/harrasment, especially towards trans people and POC, go completely unchecked.
Notably, on the CEO of Tumblr Matt Mullenweg ( onsite as “photomatt” ) has been personally harrassing trans women over DMs for speaking out against the transmisogynistic moderation.
He directly and very publically permanantly banned user “predstrogen”, a trans woman, for making a “threat” against him. The statement in question being “i hope photomatt dies a painful death involving him exploding with hammers and then explodes again and hammers fly everywhere”, witch he stated was a direct threat on his life and safety, and stated he would be contacting the FBI over.
He made many public statements about this moderation decision, in witch he repeatedly misgendered her and refered to her multiple times as “it”. And repeatedly threatened to persecute her legally for trying to speak out about it.
Regarding his moderation action against user predstrogen, he repeatedly flagged and took down SFW photos of her, notably a post with 2 selfies of her showing her transition progress, as NSFW. And refused appeals or any further critisism of this action dispite visable backlash.
Many other blogs have been banned unfairly for spreading info about predstrogen (and other trans women) being wrongfully flagged or banned. With at least 3 blogs permanently banned immediately after predstogen for criticizing the staff’s decision. ( users being : “nebulaaaaaa” , “mozzarella-firefox” , and “8millionsystem” ).

Matt Mullenweg has been diliberately hiding evidence, or removing posts and banning users who mention any of the above issues. Often using non standard moderation tools to do so, ones witch delete ALL content posted by the offending blog, whereas in normal circumstances photos and videos that are shared by other users with a tie to the banned account remain.

Got reminded again of my old coworker who was a massive misogynist but also trans inclusive. Told me he believed trans women are indeed women because “only women would be stupid enough to want to be women”

He also aggressively corrected himself whenever he accidentally misgendered a trans guy we knew because “there’s already more women than men in the world, the more numbers we steal from them, the better.” Did that even when the trans guy wasn’t around.
I need to point out that he was completely serious btw. This man had no sense of humor if he tried.
He was a cook at the restaurant/bar I was a bartender at, and almost punched a costumer once because he overheard him talking about how women belong in the kitchen. Told me he thought women should stay out of kitchens, that cooking is a man’s job and when I asked him what he thinks women should be doing, he went quiet for a moment, then proceeded to explain to me the following
“I trust a bitch to run a kitchen as much as she can run a country, they should do shit like plumbing. Or electricity. Something you can just learn to do and don’t need to lead, you know?”
Apparently women are good at “fixing shit”. He claimed that he doesn’t trust male plumbers or electricians except if they’re gay because “something most be wrong with you if you want to go fix other people’s houses, that’s that maternal instinct”
Love that you guys seem to like the stories about my Guy, here’s another. (also for context i need to say that english is not the language he spoke, and when i say ‘fag’, i’m using it for our version of the slur. Our Guy insisted that that’s just how you call gay people in our language (it isn’t))
We had an openly gay coworker who looked like it (crop tops, dyed hair, make-up) and he was often harassed by the waiters from the football bar next door. The gay dude had the same name as the Guy, who insisted that we would specify the he isn’t gay, so they just became “Name” and “Not Gay Name”. He was fine with that.
Oh he also once went on a rant about how he respects our gay coworker more than “those other fags” because “at least he has the balls to look like a fag, yknow? None of that sneaky shit where you can’t tell if they’re trying to fuck you or your girlfriend.” When I then told him I was bi, he looked me over and called me some slurs before telling me that I don’t need to rub it in that I can get both. Then he asked me if I think he’s hot and when I told him no, he informed me I should stick with women because I clearly have shit taste.
He once accidentally bullied one of our younger waitresses out of an early eating disorder she was developing before working there (she told me about it after)
Boss gave us one meal from the menu a day as a job bonus, and we had this very shy seventeen year old working with us who was already nervous around men, but Our Guy was a 6'3 dude who only stopped yelling and cursing when he was not speaking at all. If he was the one cooking that day, he’d peek out of the kitchen an hour before he’d start closing it up, and would shout at you if you haven’t ordered your meal yet because he hated cooking once he already cleaned. The waitress was scared shitless of him, and so whenever he would yell at her to “fucking order already”, she’d panic and just pick something.
She didn’t eat much but the first time she tried to throw out almost the whole plate, he got so personally insulted that he berated her for not picking something she’d like, and demanded to know what he did wrong. He got really upset about apparently not being able to cook something that this kid would like and I’m pretty sure he started putting in extra effort to make sure she would eat it this time? It lead to him quite literally standing over her like a hawk when she ate to “see her reaction” and demand an immediate review to see what he can improve.
She later told me that it she was so scared and awkward around him back then that it kind of overrode her fear of food, and that she still sometimes pretends she’s back there, when she feels a bad episode coming on, so. He did do something good for the world i guess
Our Guy met a nonbinary person once when my friend came to visit me at work. He was just on a smoke break so I had to introduce them and when I said “They’re visiting” he got confused and asked us how many people are there (and then threatened murder if they dare order something while he’s on a break). I had to explain this man what a nonbinary person is, he thought about it for a second, called the whole thing “fucking stupid, there ain’t that shit in nature” and then proceeded to very mockingly refer to them as (our language equivalent of) “your majesty” and use the pronouns you use for people you’re supposed to respect (which is genderless and very formal)
My friend thought he was really funny before I explained to them that I’m pretty sure he thought he was being mean (but hey he it wasn’t misgendering so yay)
Then (after his break) they ordered a vegan sandwich and we heard him cussing them out about how “they should pick a fucking struggle”. Later I asked him about it and got told that “how much shit can you deny yourself? Cheese, gender, the fuck’s next?”

I like how his issue isn’t with the “that shit ain’t in nature” thing he mentioned, but the idea that being nonbinary is some form of self-deprivation and that they deserve a gender like everyone else.
How did Dogma, a relatively low-budget film, manage to have the only good-looking angel wings? Like, even movies with tons of FX dollars tend to fuck them up and they look bad. These are very stylized, and you can tell they’re not real feathers, but they actually look… better than real feathers? They have a balance of curvature and sharp angles that just make for a great silhouette and they move wonderfully. I cannot figure this out!!

“procrastination won’t work in college” ok so. yes it will. but it’s a lot more dangerous. I always used to hear about how i won’t be able to procrastinate when i get to uni, but really, you can just become an even more dangerous procrastinator. you don’t have a weekly quiz and graded homework to keep you on track. if i decide to not go to intro to quantum for a month because 12pm is too early for me to make it to class and i’d rather eat breakfast, then i can just not, and I can cram the whole thing the night before the final. This does work. I have not done badly on any exams this year despite being a severe procrastinator, and my GPA this year is like a 3.97. However. This does come at the cost of your sanity and health. I cannot recommend this strategy. You should learn to not procrastinate, but you cannot proceed with the mindset that eventually you’ll run out of ability to procrastinate and you’ll be forced to actually do things on time. You can always procrastinate. You just end up sacrificing your health.

i think i might have said this before but im so grateful that i was exposed to antipsych thought a year or two before i realized i was plural. syscovery was rough enough with the knowledge that this type of brain isn’t inherently broken. without that ideological priming? honestly there’s a not insignificant chance i would have reported to the psych ward and derailed my entire life. which would have been so fucking stupid because none of my syscovery was that serious. i just know that before i was exposed to antipsych thought, i thought that living that way was Broken and required Fixing, even if it wasn’t actually that disruptive to your life.
I promise. Doing it scared will you give you the best results in the end. I’m learning to step more out of my comfort zone this year, and so far I’m proud of myself.
