also I went and looked it up on the MFA website and as I suspected, it’s made of mother-of-pearl! the rainbow parts are probably from iridescent blacklip shells, and the rest is carved white oyster shell.
There are some Chinese porcelains which are definitely worthy of the Tiffany paradox - I mean, sure, it was made in the 1300s but it’s a lemon yellow tea bowl - but honestly this one really epitomizes the matter.

This embroidered waistcoat is one of 3 I’ve seen with the same design, so it must have been published in a magazine or something. It’s so weird knowing that it’s 1840’s because it looks so pixel-y, especially with that bright blue background. (And yes, I’ve seen plenty of other pixel-y looking old needlepoint and and such, but they’re usually floral.)

Leelah Alcorn was a trans girl, a teenager, who sadly committed suicide nearly 10 years ago. I’m happy that her comic touches the hearts of so many people, years after her death.
I saved screenshots of her blog and last message to the world. Her parents had a lot of control over how she was perceived after her death, but it was also to prevent deletion by Tumblr itself. Even back then, Tumblr has been shadow banning trans women on this platform.
My heart goes out to all trans women who are struggling with society’s expectations of who they are supposed to be and who they are allowed to be. May you find peace, growth, and respite from whatever you’re going through. You deserve happiness, most of all. Thank you for living, thank you for being here with us.

There IS better autism research they could be doing, like trying to discover other medications that help with sensory issues and quality of life problems and trying to get better childhood diagnosis rates for autistic girls. But no, the decades long useless search to find out what causes autism and how to eliminate it continues. The push for “autism research” is never really about how to make things better for autistic people, it’s about how to make autistic people stop existing and that is nottttt possible. But they’ll continue to fixate on it.
