One of my friends is a piano tuner. Her dream, or at least her parents’ dream, was to be a concert pianist. Turns out she liked messing with the mechanisms more than she liked memorizing songs. It also turns out that “decent piano tuner” pays a lot more than “failed concert pianist,” which helped convince her parents as well.
In the same way, I don’t think there’s any shame in being a race car driver’s mechanic. Racing is a team effort. Everyone on that team has to contribute as best they can. From the crew chief who remembers things like “what weekend the race is on,” to the intern who puts air in the tires of the car-hauling trailer, they can all share in a victory.
Thing is, the media likes a hero. It’s hard to do a story about a whole bunch of people doing their job properly. Not much drama in it. They think we want to see a radical, a loner, a real protagonist. Even the TV news likes to ensure the happenings of the world are conveyed to you entirely by a cabal of all-knowing, handsome talking heads. More heroes, selling you the story of other heroes.
Those people don’t really exist, and when they do, they’re kind of unpleasant because they won’t help you with your shit. Race cars need mechanics; concert pianists need tuners; everyone needs somebody.
That’s why I’ve decided to more flagrantly violate the traffic laws. It’s only by stretching these laws to their maximum that the lawmakers will truly appreciate the hard work of the dedicated civil servants who anticipated things like not letting me pull my Volare with a bunch of sled dogs. And if I do manage to find something new, they will all get a great opportunity to come together as a team and ban it. No need to thank me; just doing my part.
being on doxxing terms with a tumblr mutual is kinda funny like we met at yaoi university and now an year later we both know each other’s exact locations
Don’t mind me just shooting green aura into your eyes as you read this auaaauhuaaaaaaaaaaauauauuauaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauaaaauaauuuuuuuuuuuuuauuuuuuuauauauaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
so funny that humans imagined a creature that is like a human but bigger and called it a “giant”. that’s such an uncreative name. that’s just an adjective. “it’s a giant!” “a giant what?!” “a giant… um. yeah. giant.”
oh my god,,,, the word was originally used for the creature and not as an adjective,,,,, that’s even funnier *guy seeing something huge* wow! that’s roughly the size of one of those big creatures wouldn’t you say?
Not my usual content, but I made something I wanted to share…
Edit: Now with an ID from @a-captions-blog! Thank you for writing it!
[Art description: A Pokémon-themed comic featuring OP as a Pikachu. Long description follows.
1. The tips of Pikachu’s ears are shown with text that says, ‘I’m a Pikachu / My world is filled with lots of cool stuff. Sometimes it feels like anything is possible!’ Under this is a collage showing a Charizard, a Pidgeotto, a Nidoking, an Eevee, and an Ivysaur, all in the background as the Pikachu looks up in wonder. Text reads, ‘All sorts of types, all sorts of attacks, all sorts of Pokemon.’
2. Text says, ‘But…only two ways a Pikachu’s tail could look.’ Two boxes in the upper corners show the male and female Pikachu tails, respectively. The male has a rectangular end to his tale, and the female has a heart-shaped end to hers. Text continues, ‘So then, what am I?’ A large drawing of the narrator Pikachu is shown, with an arrow pointing to their tail, whose end is split somewhat like scissors and doesn’t match either the male or female drawing above.
3. Text says, ‘Too pointy to be [female], too much of a V-shape to be [male]. I thought there was something wrong with me.’ Under this are three cascading panels showing the Pikachu from below at an angle emphasizing their tail. The second panel shows mel further away, and in the final panel she have disappeared entirely. Text on the panels reads, ‘I felt / very, very, very / alone.’
4. Text says, ‘But then, something happened. I found others like me.’ The art shows the narrator reaching out to another Pikachu. Under this are three other Pikachu. One has a rounded tail, one has a tail that has been stitched up to be rectangular, and one has a tail with a slight spike at the tip.
5. Closeups are shown of each of the tails from the previous panel, with text that says, ‘Round tails, scarred tails, spiky tails.’ Under this is a drawing of the Pikachu all hugging with lightning coming from their cheeks. Text reads, ‘They told me nothing was wrong with me, and I wasn´t alone anymore.’
6. Text says, ‘There are many ways a Pikachu’s tail can look. I’ve heard there’s at least over 30 different variations.’ Under this are two panels. The first panel shows the narrator lying on their back on a background of male and female symbols. Text reads, ‘Some days are still hard.’ In the second panel, the Pikachu with the scarred tail is shown with text that says, ‘My friend tells me her tail used to look just like mine. It was taken from her.’
8. The narrator is shown sitting and looking upwards. Text reads, ‘Some trainers won’t accept Pikachu that aren’t [male] or [female]. They alter our tails without our consent. But things are getting better. We are making change. We’re fighting so that our tails will be left alone.’ Under this is a panel showing the four Pikachu running happily towards the right. Text reads, ‘We’re all on a spectrum. Every tail looks different; anything is possible.’
The final text reads, ‘This is a comic about intersex people.’ The watermark in the lower right says @ PostManic. \End descriptions
on all levels except physical i am gently flicking you in the nose
i get the sense based on the fact that you’re telling me to jump off a bridge and clearly angry as hell about a post that is, if its the one im thinking of (the one that ppl should always be allowed to improve themselves), several years old at this point, that you’re probably hurting in some way very badly, and you have my sympathies for that
whatever it is that has hurt you, i hope it passes, and i hope that hurt fades
but yes, i do think “people like rapists” can become better people. their victims are not obligated to forgive them. their victims should not ever have to be anywhere near them, nor should they be allowed near their victims, unless for whatever reason said victims are engaging on their own for their own reasons
i do not believe in punitive justice. i do not believe that a person is Simply Bad or Permanently Bad. that is the kind of heavily christian-poisoned mindset that leads a lot of the insanity in this world and pure black and white thinking will not only hurt others but it will hurt you
allowing someone to improve themselves and also holding them accountable for what they’ve done is in fact something you can do. one does not cancel out the other.
if a rapist has realized what they did was terrible, and they wish to never do that again, and try and do better in this world, that is something they should be allowed to do.
if you are the kind of person who says ACAB and believes in prison abolition, which you may or may not be, you need to come to terms with the fact that that means people who have done terrible, unforgivable things, are going to be allowed to try and be better
i sincerely recommend looking into restorative justice if it is something that you have any investment in
this is the first anon hate i’ve gotten in several years. i was a little startled to open my tumblr and see someone telling me to jump off a bridge. when i allowed anon on my blog years ago, it was with the intent that ppl who were anxious or shy would not feel afraid to talk to me, but with the caveat that if anyone sent me anon hate, it would be turned off.
i congratulate you on being the anon who fucked that up for everyone.
if you want to keep yelling at me, you’ll have to do it without hiding your face. and full disclosure, im not going to humor you with argument if you do. im just going to block you and move on with my life, and i recommend if you’re so deeply enraged at me that you do the same. im a random guy on the internet who holds a different belief system than you. you really do not need to give yourself an ulcer about it.
like i said before, I hope whatever is hurting you lets go. i hope that if you are in an ongoing situation where someone is doing the unforgivable to you that you are able to get out, and that you are given ample time to heal.
i hope you know that you do not owe forgiveness to anyone who has hurt you; forgiveness is something that is meant to help the forgiver, and if it is not something that benefits you, youre not obligated to it.
stay safe anon.
im going to link a couple resources just in case you are in any danger
You can’t just tell people to ‘get a VPN (Virtual Private Network)’. Buying a VPN is like buying a house. It’s very very important. Having no VPN or having a ‘wrong’ one can seriously damage your life. Especially for Americans because their privacy laws are garbage. I am going to try explain why you should get a VPN but bare with me, I am from Germany and my English is far from perfect.
Let’s start with a simple test. Click this link here: https://whatismyipaddress.com/ It will tell your IP adres, your ISP (internet service provider), and your location. The location might not be very accurate, but then again, it’s just a simple website. Imagine what the government can do!
So basically, everyone can find out where you live. But there is more danger. Your ISP. Your ISP logs your every move online and they are required to keep it in case the government wants access to it (or if a 3rd party wants to buy your data (yikes). They have everything. What websites you visit. How long you stay on a website. What you download. Your search terms. European laws are more subtle on this but if you are from the US you are #@*#&, especially because Trump doesn’t support the open internet. It’s scary but maybe in the future you can’t get a job because the recruiter knows your searched on ‘how to deal with depression’ or anythings else that’s supposed to be private because it’s your f*cking right. Or you get a $100k fine because you pirated a movie 15 years ago. You need a VPN. You’re dumb for not using one. but what does a VPN do?
A VPN encrypts all your data so if it were be intercepted no one can ‘crack the code’ and damage your privacy.
Usually being online goes like this (simplified): Your computer —-> ISP (—–> keeps data —–> sells it)
But with a VPN it goes like: Your computer —–> VPN (encrypts data)—–> ISP (ISP can’t see shit)
Furthermore, a VPN hides your IP address and location by giving you another IP address located in Spain for example (you can often choose from a list and change as many times as you want).
Now that you know why you should get a VPN and what is does it is important to educate yourself because people often choose the wrong VPN. VPN providers are also businesses and have to obey the law. If you choose a VPN provider located in the US then you are throwing your money away because the laws in the US shits on your privacy. If the US gov wants the provider to give all their logs they have to obey. The ISP still can’t see what you are doing online and sell your data but the US gov can interfere with your VPN provider so NEVER CHOOSE A PROVIDER LOCATED IN THE US.
I just wanted to make that very clear so my followers don’t buy false security.
There is still more danger! Who says your VPN provider isn’t selling your data? You need to check their logging policy. Do they keep logs? If yes, what for? For how long do they keep them? Tip: Choose a provider who doesn’t keep logs
More about law The US is part of the Five Eyes program (the worst):
The Five Eyes, often abbreviated as FVEY, is an intelligence alliance comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. These countries are bound by the multilateral UKUSA Agreement, a treaty for joint cooperation in signals intelligence (source)
There is also a Nine Eyes (bit better) and Fourteen Eyes Program (better). You don’t want a VPN provider who is located in one the Five Eyes countries. If you had to choose go for a provider located in a country that’s part of the Fourteen Eyes Program or even better, go for a country that isn’t part of any program!
I know this is a shitty explanation and please pardon my english but now it’s time to do your own research. Take your privacy seriously. Maybe WWIII breaks out and you get killed for liking the ‘wrong’ FB-page.
Make sure that your future VPN provider both has green boxes for Privacy Jurisdiction and Privacy Logging.
I recommend ovpn.se and trust.zone. ovpn is located in Sweden so they are part of the 14 Eyes Program and they keep minimal logs. Their business ethics, however, are alright.
Trustzone is located in the Seychelles. No country can interfere and their privacy jurisdiction is the best you can get. The US want your data but needs to get it from Trustzone? The Seychelles will simply give them the finger and wave them goodbye. However, this makes this provider very appealing for people who torrent and criminals because they keep no logs (and that is how it shoud be) Also, there are almost no marketing efforts so this provider is one the cheapest)
Also, often providers such as ExpressVPN are being called ‘The Best’ on websites about VPNs but know that this is just marketing which also makes those provider more expensive (and they too shit on your privacy)
This must be the worst article you have ever read but please, please take your privacy very seriously.
I am also with Trustzone but I think you forgot to explain one of it’s most important features. It protects you when you are using someone else’s Wi-Fi. If you are at Starbucks and you use their Wi-Fi your privacy is at risk. Anyone with ill intentions could steal your information. Especially if you are using an unsecured Wi-Fi hotspot. With a VPN your data gets encrypted so no one can steal it.
Wait, what’s going, on? Did trump destroy internet privacy with a bill or something? Where’s the news? Oh wait, why am I getting visions of Alex Jones and selling water purifiers?
He hasn’t yet but he says he wants to. And if he is serious about it it would be really easy to do. Since all our data is already recorded, as the person above explained.
Trump wants more surveillance of Muslim Americans. This in a country where internet privacy is already close to non-existent.
To all my friends in the US, please read this entire post. Making everyone aware of VPNs is going to be my mission. Your privacy matters. Please reblog this post.
Don’t tell me you just wanted to scroll past this. Stop looking at pictures of cats for a moment, okay? Don’t you realize how important this is? This is dangerous! ‘America, the best FREE country in the world’ my ass.
With this new law your ISP can sell your Internet history which could include passwords, usernames, religion, credit card numbers, race and much more to the highest bidder. So here is what I want you to do.
You are going to read the whole thing and before you think ’this is so important. Let me reblog this real quick and go back to admiring cats again-’ NO! Don’t reblog this. Take action first. Then reblog. Sign up for a free trial! Trust.Zone offers one (here). Yes. It might be difficult to set up a VPN for some people. But is that going to stop you from protecting yourself and your family? 30 minutes. 30 minutes is all that it takes. 5 if you know how to install software. The problem with some of you is that you see ‘difficult’ as something negative. I want you to see difficult differently. I need you to push through this stuff. You are going to protect yourself. There is nothing negative about that.
VPNs are fun and costsaving too! A VPN bypasses geographical restrictions so you can access websites you normally can’t or you could start Netflix’s one month free trial over and over again- forever. And it’s legal! (unless you use it to buy weapons etc.,)
Don’t tell yourself that you are too tired and that you will do this tomorrow. Because that isn’t going to happen and you know it. You have to do this right now. You only have to click on it.
Don’t let this/shit/life just happen to you. Take yourself seriously. Get a VPN.
Privacy is not a privilege, it’s a fundamental human right
Hey is thatoneprivacysite still good? The link works and it does take me to an article about vpns, but it just looks like an ad for expressvpn with extra steps.
I had Trust.Zone when this post first started making the rounds on Tumblr and I forgot about it after Biden took office. I recently sent them an email asking why my subscription wasn’t automatically renewed and why their website hasn’t changed since 2017(?). Their answer:
Shady people, good people, this company only cares about privacy and doesn’t care who it serves. But now with Trump and Musk this is the only VPN I’ll use.
I understand some people might not want to use this VPN on moral grounds, but it’s genuinely one of the very few VPNs set up in a way that no authority can touch you. ExpressVPN and other ‘popular’ options operate in jurisdictions favorable for profits but their privacy is just a band-aid our government can easily rip off if it demands information. I’m a trans man, I’m afraid of our government, and at this point, I simply don’t care anymore.
For a second I was like noooooo, not this long post again! Haven’t seen it in years and I always thought it was a bit extreme and exaggerated. Now that we are in 2025, I am like, nahh, these people knew what they were talking about all along. First time I am reblogging this.
Also I don’t think anyone has said this yet but the free trial only requires an email address. No credit card details or anything. Refreshing.
Could someone please put the link to the free trial here? I don’t want to scroll back up 10 miles. Thank you.
The argument against VPNs has always been, “but I have nothing to hide.” Now that an unpredictable lunatic is in charge, purging based on whatever whim strikes him, that sentiment is quickly fading. VPNs aren’t just about hiding personal secrets; they’re about protecting freedom, autonomy, and your basic right to live without unjust scrutiny or arbitrary persecution.
Because we have to talk in code about this on tiktok, I’m here to help spread some helpful tips to all my American anti-fascists out here who may need it. If you see police car that looks like this, (predominant blue stripe),
This is an ICE car. They are out and about right now hunting down immigrants, legal and illegal.
If you see them- or really, any police car- lurking, scream at the top of your lungs.
If deportation forces aren’t currently swarming your streets that much but might soon be doing more of this (looking at Europe here), consider practicing on cops and public transport checks. How long can you keep a cop busy by arguing about minor things? That’s time he can’t spend harassing homeless people. How long can you try to find the ‘lost ticket’ that was in your pocket all along? If it’s enough to get to the train or bus to the next stop, it’ll allow those without tickets to make an escape and avoid a fine.
Doing this a lot will make you much better at it and will put a little good into the world on a daily basis.
This applies to so many things! Your first two inches of knitting/crocheting look like fuck-all. Your pile of fabric pieces look like fuck-all. Your first two paragraphs look like fuck-all. Your first nursing class looks like-fuck all. Keep doing the thing until you finish the thing!
the aircraft emergency frequency (known as GUARD in the usa) is SUPPOSED to be used for emergencies. the frequency is 121.5 mhz. it is for all international air distress and emergencies and stuff (theres a different one for military)
however. for some goddamn reason. for at least the past ten years (maybe more) there has been meowing. random pilots going “meowww!” on the emergency frequency. this is often followed by at least 8 different people yelling “GUARRRRD” “YOUR ON GUARD” “STOP FUCKING MEOWING” and at least 3 others meowing also.
i have a radio and often tune into this frequency if i want to hear local airplane pilots/control tower operators act like absolute fools.
here’s some operators using GUARD to try to contact a flight that went missing (they found them) and just the absolute nonsense, the one guy spamming caribbean music, the voice changer, and the meowing and guard police are so fucking funny. GUARD is always doing shit like this. its great. (note that he isnt on the frequency until 1:30, so the other shit is just normal coworker conversations. “who the fuck eats honeydew” is just two coworkers not abusing resources).
usually radio etiquette is a lot more professional for these guys but mistakes do happen. people tend to be pretty quick on the jokes tho. if you ever want to listen to the funniest shit ever a lot of amateur radio operators upload the funniest dialogue they catch on youtube pretty often.
Yes, unfortunately this is true. Pilots are children. And since we’re all legally obligated to monitor guard at all times when able, these guys know they always have an audience. Things I’ve also heard on guard include:
• someone barking, which was nice variety and very much appreciated to see more canine representation in my field
• airline captains making full cabin announcements, not realizing they were transmitting, followed by several other pilots asking questions as if they were in the cabin
• airline captain making about half a cabin announcement before stopping cold, pausing for about 3 seconds, and mumbling “…I am so fucking sorry,” then presumably making the announcement again to his actual cabin
• two pilots for different airlines speaking Italian to each other (one of these was actually my captain, the other guy was a friend from his last job)
• pilot doing a radio shockjock voice saying “aaalrighty folks you’re listening to one-twenty-one-point-five theGUARRRRRRD, bringing you the lastest in aviation disasters, mishaps, and tragedieesss! Up next, four more hours of nonstopcatsoundssssss!”

tomboyism is so funny to me. gender non-conformity for girls is acceptable for like two minutes between the ages of 8 and 10. beyond that it’s appalling and you’re a freak but for those two years…… they could’ve had it all

We don’t know for sure that this is what they did, but multiple people have found that if you ask ChatGPT to “make a formula to reduce the American trade deficit to 0”, this is what it produces.
how i’m handling my students using AI to write papers:
-don’t accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don’t know the meaning of
-ask to see their original file where they “wrote” the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like “certainly! here’s an essay about….”
-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don’t, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.
And this is much better than the immediate accusations. Some students have a good vocabulary. Stop accusing them of faking their essays without proof, and this is a good way to check.
Fellow students please stop using AI, go back to promising not to kill the school nerd if they do all your homework or something.
Begging everyone on the internet to stop smoothing out their middle aged men and draw wrinkles for the love of god I promise it’s so fun you’ll love it Come into my wine cellar
