the US education system isn’t even that bad. many countries have objectively worse-funded education systems, but don’t display the same belligerent idiocy as them. the fundamental issue is that USAmericans have no real reason to care about the rest of the world, as it will never meaningfully affect their lives unless they decide to go on vacation or take part in an invasion. their lack of intellectual curiosity is because the rest of the world never really registers as a real place.
love the notes on this. ‘oh actually our education system is really underfunded’ that’s very unique of you. no other country is like that. i know people who are not legally allowed to attend higher education because of their gender who demonstrate more intellectual curiosity about the world than you. 'actually we’re all struggling and just trying to survive so theres no time to care about the world’ no you’re right the USA is the poorest country on earth after all. would sort of break the argument if people from much more impoverished countries showed significantly more interest in learning about the outside world than usamericans do. almost like people everywhere suffer from lack of access to education but the imperial core uniquely generates people who have no material reason to care, specifically because of their privilege even in poverty. 'um actually most of us can’t afford a vacation overseas’ so, again, since you’re not going to be invaded, and your government isn’t at the international financial gunpoint of a foreign empire, you will literally never be affected by other countries.
you tell a usamerican that the people they bomb, invade, coup, and sanction have it worse than they do and they start sobbing and crying about how they’re actually the least privileged people on the planet, because they don’t have [social welfare that western europe has] because, again, they don’t see the rest of the world, outside the west, as a real place.
addendum for all the yanks suffering from brain fungus in my notes: no, your education system is not uniquely propagandistic, either. every capitalist country has its education warped to support the ideology of its ruling class. similarly, and, even more insane of a claim to make, the US’s unique lack of intellectual curiosity is not due to inadequate mental healthcare. the idea that the rest of the world are all just getting amazing therapy is absurd, 42% of Palestinian children suffer from moderate or acute PTSD.
both of these claims reinforce what I already said, that usamericans literally do not see the rest of the world as being real, and self-victimise because they compare themselves exclusively with other western, imperial core countries like the EU. the only way these claims make sense is if they see 'the rest of the world’ as Germany and Sweden, and see the entire global south as a vague rhetorical construct that can be disregarded (through casual, joking reference to the incredible levels of imperial oppression of the African continent).
having not actually read the post at all, and instead jumped into defensively yelling about 'oppression olympics’, this likely won’t reach any of them, but still.

I love the trope in conspiracies/stories/mockumentaries that’s like “all of these unrelated cultures had this same ultra specific type of creature, so that means they must have been real!!!!” And then the creatures are just like
Human but big
Human but small
Human but found in place where you wouldn’t expect
Lizard but big
Horse but a lil funky
Deer but a lil funky
Other big mammal
It’s like buddy you’re not gonna believe this but these are all based on things that are, in fact, found everywhere
(There’s also very real commentary that can be made here about how people have a sameness and lack of appreciation for indigenous stories and they all belong together in one kind of bin in their heads but that’s way too deep and serious a topic for this post)
Forget about torturing your blorbos, putting them through the wringer. I’m putting my blorbo in perfectly ordinary, pleasant situations. Their tortured personality will cause them anguish anyway, making an absolutely mundane scene into the most dramatic, agony filled affair as though the world is ending and it’s all their fault
All the therian masks I see are made for the upper half of the face but I get the most species dysphoria from the lower half of my face :[
A few years ago I made this mask but I’m thinking of redoing it, or at least making it better. I’m still proud of it tho. It’s attached to an old fabric covid face mask. I don’t like how low it sits on my face but idk
Ignore my un-teased mohawk it’s been a rough morning
I do think it’s kinda weird that the common response to “polyamorous people are oppressed” is laughter and ridicule. As if the societal status quo doesn’t enforce monogamy, as if straying from monogamy isn’t punished or treated badly, as if hatred of polyamory isn’t always acted out with homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia and racism. I think it’s funny that someone will be like “the nuclear family is bad” can see that society forces the concepts of straight/cis good but gay/trans bad, but can’t for a second believe monogamy is part of all that. It’s just very silly.
hey dude im going through a really rough patch can i please crash on your couch for a couple of days i just have a suitcase full of clothes and like a thousand skeleton warriors
Worst Case vs. Best Case Scenarios by Karina Farek.
This is a great joke, but it’s also a wonderful strategy for reducing anxiety that I learned about in therapy. If you’re ever nervous about something, just ask yourself: what’s the best thing that can happen? What’s the worst thing? What will most likely happen?
It does wonders for your nerves, really does.
I can not explain how much this comic has helped me over the years. I think about this constantly and it helps so much.
Chat they made Minecraft into a silly goofy cringe movie even through Minecraft is actually about life and earth and the universe and tearing meaning out of the ground and molding it with your hands into something that you can be proud of. They made the pink sheep look ugly and funny for a cheap laugh when it should’ve been a beautiful moment where you, age eleven, come across this rarity, this beautiful anomaly and you hold its face in your hands and stare into its chocolate brown eyes and you realize what the whole world is about. Chat they made it into a joke
you really can’t unsee american military propaganda in movies like once you start thinking about it you are doomed to be the friend who’s too political when people put on an action movie for the rest of your life
its more than that as the link suggests: the pentagon basically gets to decide whether or not you get access to humvees and other military equipment for your movie and they ask for a pass over any script in exchange. most notoriously Marvel was blacklisted by them for a while allegedly because of the Avengers movie making the military ‘look bad’ in being unable to prevent destruction to new york city.
and you can really see this shift, the avengers era and before they had tons of access to military vehicles and the government and military featured quite prominently, and then with Winter Soldier that suddenly all got flushed away and we didnt return there for a while
more interestingly, you can see exactly when and how they got back in the good graces of the DOD: Captain Marvel and Black Panther. I believe Black Panther was given a pass over by the pentagon as the first step to getting back in the good books (note the CIA is the goodguys plotline. not shield - the CIA specifically, in a movie about black american politics. hm). Then captain marvel was made into a blatant airforce recruitment ad. Fun stuff!
this but i was under the impression at the time of the winter soldier that the director did not agree to the deal because it was kind of an anti-military picture and he did not want to do the thing where the army gets a veto.
legitimately my first feminist awakening as a ten year old child was realizing that girls were expected to respect “boy stuff” but boys were never expected to respect “girl stuff”
my science fair project in fifth grade was basically i had this printout of a bunch of toys that were stereotypically boy toys and girl toys, and i would have my classmates study the sheet for some short period of time, idr if it was like 30 seconds or a minute or whatever, then put it away and had them recall to me as many toys as they could remember. my hypothesis was officially that boys would remember more boy toys and girls would remember more girl toys, but secretly in my head i knew that girls would probably remember boy toys and girl toys relatively equally but boys would still remember mostly boy toys. and that ended up being the case. and i still remember this 20 years later because it hasn’t fucking stopped. and you know what they didn’t even like my project. participation ribbon. i was a fifth grade feminist theorist and no one cared

seen so many posts that are like “I was so confused when I saw all this posting about some non-existent movie “Goncharov” like it was real” I wasn’t. this happens 5 times a week. my dash is routinely filled to the brim with passionate analysis of absurd-sounding movies and tv shows I have never heard of. I never for a second doubted the existence of a russian mafia movie set in italy with massive numbers of bizarrely named characters and no cohesive understanding of the movie’s themes or plot until I saw a post saying to tag it as unreality. this is tumblr. this happens daily. not one thought crossed my mind except “ha, looks like a few of my mutuals have a new hyperfixation.” this is what tumblr has done to me. you could tell me there’s a new tv show about dolphins with french accents living as royalty in victorian england while secretly starting a cult to renew the worship of the greek gods and the shipping discourse is intense and I would simply think “sounds legit” and keep scrolling
This idiot hasn’t seen The Dolphin Court

hi everyone. i love you, i care about you, please make sure to get your ten hours of screentime in today. bump it up to 12 if you can, don’t sit any further than two feet from the screen, try to keep blinking to a minimum. if you reach the end of your feed remember to keep refreshing until new content pops up
