In hindsight it’s very insulting to be told that flunking out of college due to adhd is actually “quite common”
just like, if there’s a history at your institution of disabled kids not being able to make it you realise that’s your fault right. like why don’t you fucking do something about it. i guess they tried to do something about it with me and it failed so they let me go. crazy. nice work. why should we try to do any better.
only 5% of people with adhd who go to college finish a degree. FUCKING. FIVE!!! PERCENT!!!!!!!!!!!
that should disgust and enrage you.
if any other demographic of students had a 95% failure rate, we would be demanding reform and studies to understand why that’s happening
when i was at my first university, trying to get accommodations for my ADHD, they just kept asking me what accommodations i wanted, and refused to answer when i would ask what was available to me. how the Hell am i supposed to know what i can have? what’s available???? also, i don’t know!!!! i’m an adhd sufferer, not a fucking disability expert for the fucking college, unlike you, DISABILITY EXPERT WHO WORKS FOR THE COLLEGE.
but because the us is OBSESSED with making sure no one gets anything “”for free””, she literally would not tell me what my options were until i broke down in tears and asked her why she was refusing to help me. and then she did a big sigh, like i was fucking up her entire career by *checks notes* asking the disability center in my university to help me, a disabled student
at the second uni i went to, i tried to explain to a dean that i was literally two gen eds that had nothing to do with my degree away from graduating and that i was burnt out and broke and exhausted and suicidal and i just needed to be able to finish my degree without the gen eds. and this. fucking. guy. looked me right in my face and said in the most patronizing tone he could muster “if you can’t handle it, then maybe college just isn’t for you.” keep in mind that up until that semester, i had been an honor student who made Dean’s List every semester and didn’t get below Bs. if it hadn’t been for my mental breakdown, i would have graduated cum laude, maybe even summa cum laude.
but this dean of students looked a disabled person right in the face and said well i guess you just can’t do it, short bus
Pulled these from a couple articles really quick but yeah the statistics are not kind. I remember writing a scathing essay about my issues with ADHD and college as part of an assignment for academic probation. I got back an email calling me entitled and lazy. Somehow, this thread helps me feel a lot better. I still have about a semester of school unfinished that I’m unsure if I’ll finish but… yeah. Makes me feel better to know it’s not just me.
Love seeing something from TikTok and going “girlie that is literally what led to the downfall of the Papal States”
Jewish baby named Edgardo Mortara is seemingly about to die in Bologna, 1851
Catholic nanny secretly baptises him to save his soul, which she’s not exactly the kind of authority who can do that, but w/e, it’s interpreted by the church as valid later
Kid survives
1857 her secret gets out, a baptising makes a kid a Catholic according to the Church and a Catholic can’t be raised in a non-Catholic household in the Papal States, so the church authorises the police to kidnap Edgardo from his family
Raised personally by Pope Pius IX, Jewish family not allowed to take him back due to Church doctrine, this action destroys the family with grief and despair
This case gets international infamy with the Pope not understanding why everyone’s shiting on him for doing this, including allies
Emperor Napoleon III shifts from opposing Italian unification to supporting it as a direct consequence
Bologna falls the next year, 1859
Kingdom of Italy forms 1861
By 1870 Rome is lost to the Italians and the Papal States are no more
(Edgardo Mortara goes on to become Father Mortara)
(He dies in Belgium in 1940 three months before the Nazis occupied the nation, which if he’d have lived he would’ve been persecuted as a Jew)
Fun fact: the Catholic Church did not stop doing this after Edgaro Mortara. During WW2, many Jewish children were put in convents or catholic-run orphanages for their own safety. Sounds nice right? Except after the war ended, when parents or surviving relative went back to claim their children, the church went, “uhhh, actually they’re catholic now, no take backs!”
The most infamous of these cases was the Finaly affair. Two Jewish children in France, Robert and Gerald Finaly, were placed in a Catholic nursery in 1944 in anticipation of their parents being deported to Auschwitz, where they were both murdered. Their aunt, Marguerite Fischel, survived the war and went to find the boys so she could take them to live with her. However, the nun who had custody of the boys, Antoinette Brun, adamantly refused to give them up, reportedly saying that “The Jews are not grateful”
What followed was a years long custody battle where despite being repeatedly ordered by courts all over Europe to return the boys, Brun took them to many different countries and hid them, with the support and help of other nuns and priests. It was suspected at the time, and later confirmed by documents released in 2020, that Pope Pius XII had supported the effort to keep the boys away from their surviving family and have them be raised Catholic.
Thankfully, after negotiations between a sympathetic cardinal in France and the chief Rabbi of Paris, the boys were finally recovered and reunited with their aunt.
I wish I could say that the phenomenon of the Catholic Church kidnapping children and keeping them away from their families for the purposes of forcefully raising them Catholic is unique to Jews, but it’s not. From the mid nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century, the Church ran hundreds of residential schools in the US and Canada where indigenous children were kidnapped from their homes and forced into these cruel and inhumane “schools”. The children were forbidden from speaking their own languages or practicing their own cultures and religions, their hair was cut, and they were subject to emotional, verbal, spiritual, physical, and sexual abuse. Many of the children died due to malnutrition or medical neglect, their bodies buried like dogs beside the schools. The Catholic Church was not the only Church to participate in this, but they’ve been the most reluctant to fully acknowledge and apologize for it. It was only in 2022 that Pope Francis apologized on behalf of the Catholic Church for their part, but some people found the apology inadequate.
Idk what my point is here, just that there’s such a clean link between evangelizing, cultural/religious imperialism, and how damaging and horrifying a religion can be when it is thoroughly convinced of its own superiority. And that unless an institution is forced to change, it probably won’t change on its own.
nimble, a border collie-papillon mix, wins the 12” class in the 2024 masters agility championship. the first time a mixed breed has won at westminster ever.
Finally decided to finish this animation that’s based on a dream I had. I’m still figuring things out, so I try to keep it simple. Rather happy with how it turned out though :^)

in your "some finnish" post abt eggs and dicking down, there's no... visual difference between "i want some egg" and "i want to get dicked down"--are they spoken the same and it should just be obvious in conversation whether someone's talking abt breakfast or breeding?
The statements are identical. You’re just supposed to know from context.
What is the literal translation that could lead to this meaning both things?
The phrase “Tahtoisin munaa.” is a good example.
Tahto- (root, infinitive form “tahtoa”, “To want”, present tense. Of note, the word “tahto” by itself means “a want” but then it is in the subjective/nominative case), -isi- (conditional suffix), -n (first person possessive suffix), muna- (root, “an egg”), -a (partitive suffix).
(Literal translation: “I would want some egg.”)
Now, semantically speaking the phrase “Tahtoisin munaa,” is unabiguous with the meaning that the speaker is currently, if possible, desiring a thing/an action, with the undefined amount of “muna” being said thing or action.
The thing is “muna” (which means “an egg”) is also a slang/informal term for the penis and/or the testicles. So, pragmatically speaking the sentence “Tahtoisin munaa,” could mean that the person wants to eat an egg/eggs, doesn’t currently have access to an egg/eggs and is politely requesting (in Finnish using the conditional mood is thought to be more polite when requesting things, compared to asking for them without it) them from the person (it is safe to assume that the speaker is talking to a human in this case) to give the egg/eggs to them, so that they can eat them. And that is in the (potential) context of the speaker wanting to eat food.
OR…
Continuing with a pragmatic reading of the sentence “Tahtoisin munaa.” If the speaker says this in a romantic/erotic/sexual context (like when spending time with their partner), this time the speaker is stating that they are willing to engage in penetrative sex, in which they are explicitly the one being penetrated, and politely asking the person (again it is safe to assume they are speaking to a person) if they are willing to engage in said action as the penetrator. Of note is the fact that the word “muna” in this case has it’s meaning expanded from the (current contextual) default of penis to “any object capable to be used in an act of penetrating a person’s orifice by another person” so it could as well mean, for example, a strap-on.
Due to the ambiguity of the word “muna” the listener is unable to correctly interpret the pragmatic meaning of the sentence without receiving needed context before or after it. The sentence can easily be made less ambiguous by simply replacing the word “muna” with a less ambigous word, for example “kananmuna” (lit. “an egg of a chicken) for the pragmatic desire for food, or with something like "kyrpä” (one of multiple slang terms for penis, literally meaning “cock” or “dick”) for the pragmatic desire to get one’s orifice penetrated.
Hopefully you found me indulging in my language studies and interests interesting even though it isn’t on the language I’m majoring in (since that’d be English)
just noticed the funniest review of one of my games. Thank you for your succinct summary
Pinpanar9 is an unsung hero, leaving a simple and understated “good” on all manner of indie games. Every creator that I know who has an itch.io counts it as a mark of pride to have a “good” from pinpanar9.
I’ve got a couple, and every time I get one, I feel a little more like I’ve made it. That I’m a real designer.
And then I got this.
This is what I imagine an Ennie win feels like. It can’t feel any better.
5 years ago today Willem Van Spronsen attacked the Tacoma ICE facility and was gunned down as he attempted to blow up the buses being used to transport prisoners. Hislast transmissionis a banger if yinz wanna read it. it’s not long.
if you have the Honey browser extension installed, uninstall it immediately. big big story broke on youtube today strongly indicating that Honey has been massively defrauding basically everyone who does any business with them at every level, including influencers, customers, and actual retailers.
the short version of ONE of the alleged crimes is that they’ve been hijacking referral links and codes. if you have honey installed on your browser at all, and you use any referral code from anyone, there is a high probability honey will swap out the referral link identifier for their own even if they don’t provide a coupon at checkout.
they also are just lying to you, and hiding coupons that very much exist. they’re completely fraudulent
paypal bought honey in 2019 for 4 billion, so paypal has been strip mining the influencer economy for 5 years now. the amount of money that’s been essentially stolen is unfathomable
To clarify: “exotics owners” does not refer to people who own animals completely unsuited to be pets (big cats, primates, etc). In the vet world, anything that’s not a dog, cat, or farm animal is called an exotic, even something as mundane as a guinea pig. PETA hates pet ownership in general, but they’re especially hostile toward anything non-traditional, even if it’s completely possible to house ethically, like a ball python or bearded dragon.
So if you own a corn snake, congratulations, you’re an exotics owner and PETA has written an article on how terrible you are.
Since this post is getting a ton of notes again and everyone is misunderstanding what I meant by “exotics.”
PETA kills cats and dogs without trying to adopt them out because they think being owned by a human is a fate literally worse than death. They kill thousands of animals. They’ve been in trouble for luring a kid’s pet dog off her porch with treats and then killing it that same day. PETA is the opposite of what they claim to be
