hey, about the anon hate you got earlier, i just came across this post from pukicho. they got the same exact anon message, and people in the notes were talking about others getting the message as well. it seems like someone (or a bot) went around to a bunch of blogs and copy-pasted the same hate mail
As a brown trans boy it sucked so badly to watch those “gender envy” slides on tik tok and see only white boys with fluffy hair. It was a little thing but it made me feel invisible even in my own community. So these are men that look like me and give me gender envy. If you’re POC disabled/ don’t see your self in common trans discussions feel free to add on.
About ten, fifteen years ago I wrote a story about a guy living in a Capitalist dystopia. His walls, furniture, and tableware are all covered in smart displays. Basically animated wallpaper. It’s sold as being able to turn your room or objects into anything - A nice forest view, outer space, a fantasy realm… but the companies that run this stuff keep sneaking ads in.
It gets so bad he’s always being woken up by adverts that offer insomnia cures and better bedding that play when he tries to sleep.
So he buys the ad-free tier, and it’s great… for a few months. And then he starts getting adverts from ‘premium partners’. So he goes up a level… and the same thing happens.
So he jailbreaks his wallpaper and sends all the ad servers to 0.0.0.0 and voila… he can sleep.
Until this SWAT team blows his door off and drag him off to jail. The Ad companies are suing him for loss of revenue for the products he’ notionally have bought if he’d watched their adverts, based on some weird 'The average consumer buys X products with an average value of Y’ calculation.
The judge is like 'well I dun wanna annoy the sponsors’ so he RICO’s this guy’s house and possessions and sends him to jail.
… which is a nice relaxed non-volent offender jail for the corporately disenfranchised. But because these people have no money… there’s no ads and now he’s happy because the only place he’s free… is in prison.
Which at the time was a bit much and now it’s like: Called it.
Elon’s suing companies for not advertising because he’s losing revenue. He’s also cranking the price of Ad Free Twitter. Disney and Amazon play adverts on their paid service when services used to be free because of the adverts… and now you have to pay to watch the adverts or go up a couple of tiers.
And google’s going around freaking out about ad-blockers.

Yeah totally! Okay, I got a lot of this from Ibram X. Kendi’s “How to be Antiracist”* where he talks about describing “racist” as an identity means that hardly anyone is going to ever “identify” with it, even if they are a racist. It’s much more helpful to talk about actions being racist or anti-racist. Someone committing racist acts speaks far more to the vulnerability of anyone to cause harm, rather than it being something ONLY reserved for someone with the identity of “racist”. For example, Clarence Thomas, a black man, has done untold amounts of harm to the black population in the US. If we subscribe to the “oh, (X) can’t be racist, they are (a minority)” train of thought, it means people are less likely to understand that Clarence Thomas commits racist acts. In the same way, describing yourself as an anti-racist is not enough, as it can let people be comfortable with racist actions because they think “oh, I’m an anti-racist, I can’t commit acts of racial harm.” That’s why it’s more helpful to describe acts as racist and anti-racist rather than framing them as identities.
In a similar way, describing someone as the label of “TERF” can have a similar effect. Because it’s specifically a label centered around being anti-trans, transgender people of all kinds will easily assume they cannot be transphobic, because the label of TERF is ideologically opposed to their existence. It invites ridicule rather than introspection. By saying actions can be transphobic, I think it helps a lot more because it’s easier to understand that trans people can be transphobic. For example, Blaire White is right there. Despite being a trans woman, she is actively doing transphobic acts. By calling out an action as transphobic rather than describing someone as a “TERF”, it helps fight back against the idea that being trans means you cannot be transphobic. For a super duper simple example, I can step on my dogs tail, but it doesn’t mean I hate dogs, it means I committed an act of harm against my dog. Describing me as a dog-hater when I LOVE dogs would invite ridicule more than it would a tendency to watch my step when my dog is in the house. I hope this makes sense!
*I’m not trying to say the Black and Trans experience is exactly the same, just that like any oppressed group, there is a lot of overlap in tactics and thinking, especially for people who are Black and Trans. Reading about other groups can really give you a ton of helpful insight on how to work within your own identity!

call me ignorant but i genuinely don’t understand why sports have to be split up by gender.
@ everyone in the notes talking about physical performance: if that were the case, then sports would be divided by physical performance. that’s a thing you can measure. that’s a thing that varies by individual. a weak man and a strong man would be an unfair fight in boxing/wrestling/MMA, which is why they divide those sports up into weight groups based on physical performance. but they also further segregate them based on gender. chess is segregated by gender for no reason but sexism. if it’s actually about skill and physical ability, then measure those and separate people by those metrics. don’t do some bullshit gender segregation and pretend like men and women are inherently on different levels no matter their individual abilities.

the pay gap in sports between men and women is fucking insane.
The pay gaps, not to mention lack of sponsorships for women athletes who don’t look like models is insane. If you weigh over 250 pounds, no one will sponsor you. It’s why most female Olympic-class weightlifters live in poverty/out of their cars.
Reminder that in international (and usually national too) womens athletics anybody with 5m/mol of natural testosterone or higher is disqualified. (See legal case of Dutee Chand vs IAAF.)
Do you or somebody you know have PCOS? You are banned from international womens athletics because you are supposedly in posession of an unreasonable advantage in sports.

Why are those disqualified overwhelmingly black and brown? Because testing is case by case when an athletes performance “raises suspicions”. They overwhelmingly test athletes of colour, for being too fast and not meeting white expectations of femininity.

Autistic people are punished so frequently by everyone around them sometimes for actually doing something wrong and sometimes just for being harmlessly different. It’s pretty much impossible to not be an asshole in response to that. It’s pretty much impossible to not be an asshole when you’re punished so frequently that you can’t tell when you actually deserve it. It’s pretty much impossible to not be an asshole when people have been an asshole to you a million times and you’re considered too sensitive if you don’t like it. It’s pretty much impossible to not be an asshole when you have zero role models and you have to figure out everything on your own. It’s pretty much impossible to not be an asshole when you’re regularly reprimanded for doing something wrong and people refuse to tell you what you should do instead.
You’re not required to associate with someone who’s an asshole. But in a world that normalizes being an asshole, autistic people are going to be assholes too. If you don’t want autistic people to use their autism as an excuse to be an asshole, then society needs to stop normalizing being an asshole. Autistic people shouldn’t have to have a perfect moral compass when neurotypical people can easily get by without one.
An autistic person is bothering someone and is unaware.
A neurotypical person sees the interaction and pulls the autistic person away.
Meanwhile, no explanation of what the autistic person was doing that was bothering the other person, and no explanation of how the neurotypical person knew that the other person was uncomfortable.
And if the autistic person asks what they did wrong, they’re considered rude.
No one cares about helping autistic people understand anything. People only care about saving the poor neurotypicals from the inconvenience of being in an autistic person’s presence.

This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author’s personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn’t gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning–she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.
Nature really went off with sperm whales. A 70-ton predator with teeth the size of a banana but it only eats squishy prey that it doesn’t even chew, it just schlorps them down whole like a vacuum cleaner. Big giant fat head full of goop. Tiniest fins in the world. Strong enough to smash a ship to pieces and smart enough to figure out how to do so but its first line of defense is just to shit everywhere. Possibly the most complex language in the animal kingdom and it creates sounds by blowing air through its internal right nostril (it uses the left one to breathe) into its giant fat head. It’s the loudest animal on the planet and might have the capability to create a beam of sound so loud it can shake your organs apart but they don’t seem to use that to hunt or fight. They’re highly flammable. We used them to make candles.
