Anyway, daily reminder from a culturally isolated Romani person.
Gypsy does not mean wanderer.
It literally means ‘people from egypt’ or similar, as europeans believed Romani people were from Egypt. It has become known similar to nomad due to how our ancestors have been forced to be nomadic due to racism and ostracization, but it is a SLUR.
Romani people are STILL being forcibly sterilized.
Romani people are STILL being forced into ghettos.
Romani people are still facing violence and danger in countless European countries- and recently, I’ve seen the beginnings of the extremes in the United States.
Have a little fucking respect and DON’T USE A SLUR THAT’S BEEN USED FOR CENTURIES AGAINST US.
And for the love of whatever’s up there, ESPECIALLY do not use it to describe your witchcraft. It is playing on the ‘magic gypsy’ trope, and is EXTREMELY insulting.
non romani people, please reblog this.
As someone with romani friends, THIS IS INSANELY IMPORTANT
October 14, 1977, Anita Bryant is pied for her antigay bigotry at a press conference in Des Moines, IA.
It was 40 years ago today…
Never gets old.
40 years on and it still is gratifying
Anita’s still alive and kicking and being anti-gay. Thom Higgins, who threw the pie when he was 27 – and was poetically from Beaver Dam – passed away 17 years later at 44. Info on his life is here. The pie throwing was a big deal. In an age before the internet let gays feel connected, and long before ACT UP, the pie showed small pockets of gays that we could fight back.
it showed that gays were human beings, who might be in the room with you, that you had been accepting as being equals and treating as people. you didnt suspect them as bieng gay, why should you treat them different after? do they become less human after finding out?
i mean, its almost like you just found out they have an oppinion on your bullshit
She was “pied” on TV. All across the country, people got to see proof that the LGBT community weren’t going to just sit there and take it. People who thought they had no choice but to stay silent saw a horrible woman get humiliated on live TV.
One of the best moments in television history.
“Do you know who’s here? Do you know who saw you do that? Do you know who saw you do that? This man is from Rolling Stone magazine. Do you know what kind of publicity you’re going to get?”
What, you think you pied her in front of a zillion cameras because he didn’t want publicity?
Anita Bryant is no longer alive and kicking.
She died December 16, 2024, apparently not announced until today (January 9, 2025).

Hi again lukadjo

OP left out the third tweet talking about asexuality haha
Bi asexual 😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Lesbian asexual????
GUYS I LITERALLY HAVE A POSTER OF HER ON MY WALL BECAUSE SHE WAS SUCH A HUGE PART OF MY GAY AWAKENING I FEEL SO VALIDATED RIGHT NOW
WE FEEL VALIDATED IN THIS HISTORY TONIGHT
Just wanted to share this for my ace lesbian followers! Marilyn Monroe was most probably one of us asexuals, even if she didn’t know about/use the terms we use to describe ourselves today. Reading these excerpts is almost the textbook experiences of aces before we find out community.

I really like “it was like hearing all the time that stove polish was the greatest invention on earth.” Because yes, that’s exactly the sentiment of the disconnect.
this example from this crt reader in the intersectionality section about a “hypothetical black woman” is so irritating to me… abortion is a concern that arises specifically out of the white female experience?
“White women want abortions while Black women want affordable childcare services” is profoundly racist and completely inaccurate. The American abortion rights movement was successful because it included women from all racial and ethnic backgrounds and income levels.
The 1970 Women’s Strike included explicit demands for legal abortions and free childcare.
This is also just like….such a transparent example of the sort of feminist-Goofus-and-Gallant shit that people constantly use to scare women away from feminism?? Literally this is just using pseudo-anti-racist rhetoric to legitimize the dynamic of “Sally says she is a feminist, but she only wants feminism so she can be a cold, selfish, power-hungry baby killer :( But Brenda is a feminist because she just wants it to be easier to do her job of birthing and nurturing babies :) So see, feminism is okay sometimes :)))” Like we’ve seriously gone full “Angel in the House” in regards to how we talk about poor and/or racialized women sometimes and it’s mindbogglingly demeaning on both a racist and sexist level. If this hypothetical woman wanted to be a Fortune 500 CEO that popped Plan B pills like Altoids, the need to include her in the feminist movement would be no less urgent.
The idea that black women wouldn’t be interested in electing a female president sure aged poorly
the reader that text was from was written in 2001; I think the authors meant well, but they weren’t walking their own talk enough yet to realize that maybe they should have asked some of their Black colleagues to provide the examples involving Black people. (Richard Delgado is of Latino background, his wife Elise Stefancic is white). Interestingly, in a 2011 interview, Delgado talks about the difficulty when you’re a scholar talking about race to a primarily white audience, how easy it is to get watered down trying to keep that audience listening long enough to do anything, makes me wonder if that was part of the gross example choices.
But yeah, also maybe people arguing in good faith should be using examples of “feminist” writing that isn’t old enough now to fuckin’ vote as representative of “feminism.” Particularly when said example is from a critical race theory reader, not something purporting to be primarily about “feminism,” intersectional or not. Delgado and Stefancic are in their 80s. A lot of 80-something academics said shit that sounded progressive 25 years ago but would be pretty dated and cringey now. Question: Why are we calling this out now, stirring up ancient discourse?
A long way around to say:
How about let’s NOT recirculate outdated conservative boogeyman-texts to spread division. Maybe instead of doing that, boost actual Black peoples’ voices. Or if you MUST be the purity police, call out racism that’s happening NOW in the feminist community, not a quarter century ago, instead of getting in a lather about shit that was written before a lot of you even existed and doing the likes of goddamn Tucker Carlson’s work for him.
that The Chaser blog that the laid off employee still has access to might be one of my favorite things ever. i fucking love when bosses forget to revoke access to company accounts. ultimate revenge. chaotic good.
i told my friend’s dad that he was hot (it was in context with the conversation, he was complaining that he was feeling old, etc), and he said a very genuine thank you and the conversation moved on to other topic, my friend was now talking about something else entirely when his dad goes

I humbly request that you add alt text to images so those who can't read images get to enjoy the horrible headlines you post. I believe in equality for all and think that if I have to put up with a brand ruining/ enhancing my Tumblr experience, everyone else should too.
Tumblr observation day four: Analysis has led us to believe one would simply need to post something as inscrutable as “Feelin extra fergalicious at this grocery store” in order to attain high praise on this website. We will investigate and report back.
While I’m posting here and no longer under any obligation to rep the company, I might as well share this incredibly funny story from behind the scenes that I don’t think ever got out:
Due to the constant problems we had around “The Chaser” being also a name of a sex thing online (you would not BELIEVE the kind of confused fan mail I had to sort through), in 2019 we had very seriously planned to rebrand our online channels.
After a laborious process whittling down hundreds of potential names we settled on another alcohol related term, a popular Australian slang term for wine, as we thought that was in the spirit of “The Chaser” but also uniquely Australian.
Literally the only reason we didn’t end up rebranding was the whole company fell into an omnishambles in 2020, and we were all too busy both figuratively and literally putting out fires to even think about doing a full company rebrand.
And that, my friends, is how The Chaser through sheer dumb luck, managed to avoid what would have gone down as possibly one of the worst company rebrands in the history of everything, when that same name came to mean something else VERY different a few years later:
if reclaiming slurs is simply a matter of having ever been called it, rather than being the actual intended target of it, then congratulations to every single middle schooler in a CoD lobby for being the vanguard of progressive reclamation
like. a straight boy being called a homo is first and foremost being given an opportunity to reassert his heterosexuality and join in on homophobia. to the gay boy, the slur is a threat; to the straight boy, a competition.
This made me cry. I wish all situations could be handled as perfectly as this
I just want to point out the core of what the diffuser did in this conversation
They recognized that the mother was also expressing a vulnerable truth about herself - that she felt like a bad mother because her child was expressing gender feelings she wasn’t equipped to help with - and met her where she was, a concerned parent with limited information - to point her where she should be heading, research and resources.
Im going to make more of an effort to stop reflexively pushing people away when they express biases and make more of an effort to hear the underlying fears when i can
“it’s easier to love ourselves when we feel loved as ourselves”
damn that is so powerful though
“it’s easier to

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
