my mom says she’s not a hugger. but when i put my arms around her on a gloomy day or after bad news she’s the last to let go. my dad says he doesn’t want gifts on his birthday, but i see the way his face light up when i get him a card with a nice message and a box full of chocolate anyway. he’s just a kid inside, still. it makes him giddy. my brother never says i love you. but when i tell him “i just need to finish the dishes before i vacuum!” he wordlessly goes to vacuum the entire house before i can, and if he sees me struggle with a wrapper or a jar or a bottle he mutters ‘c’mere’ and opens it for me without even sparing me a glance. the thing is, people love you quietly, and you love them quietly, and the air is buzzing with tiny but grand gestures & once you look for them, you find them everywhere. i think that’s really beautiful.

oh it is definitely not im genuine. i am fully aware that the series is on the younger end of YA and so ms. collins meets the audience where they’re at. love and admire her clear commitment to using her books to teach middle schoolers introductory political theory i think that’s something that should really really be accessible to kids.

You can just paint circles. And still make amazing art.
Things that have always stopped me from trying to art:
I can’t understand shapes and perspective
I can’t understand shading and lighting
I can’t make faces or human bodies because I don’t perceive them really (every face I draw is the same face, because that is what my face blindness sees)
I can’t think of scenes to make
I don’t understand “simplifying” what my eye sees into the mushes that artists make (For example, were to try to draw a tree, it would take me 50 years because the only way I could interpret it would be to draw every single individual leaf, exactly as it appears, which is impossible)
Today I learned that I don’t have to do any of those things in order to art.
I could just paint circles forever, and that would count as art. As cool art.
I would personally be happier with squares. But still. I could just. Draw shapes and paint them in, and it would count as art.
Eye-opening.
Do it! Pick a shape or a geometric pattern and make a rule, just like they did. Then try a new rule. Then combine rules. It’s going to come out amazing, and over time you’ll be able to do more and more complex things!
And yes it’s art! It is making art! Go make some art!
I understand that professional philosophy has its place in society but philosophers do tire me out sometimes I must say
We’ve all got our own philosophy I suppose. I’m certainly guilty of blathering on about how I think the world works. But there’s a lot of philosophical questions whose answers seem obvious to me if you just accept that multiple things can be true at the same time.
Like do things exist? What is a thing? Can existence be categorized? Is the universe made of things?
Like yes the universe is made of things and things are a human made concept that seems pretty obvious to me at least like how long do you have to sit in a room thinking to convince yourself that either there are no things or that there’s some inherent thing in the universe that makes it fit into our human boxes can you please touch grass
And yes perhaps my opinions on this are bogus and I’m completely wrong I’m completely open to that possibility but with the way modern philosophy is often communicated to the public it feels like they’re all just sitting in their offices smoking weed and asking if grass really exists instead of going out and touching the grass like yes grass is a human made mental construct and yes grass does exist you can go outside and touch it right now
And I want to reiterate that philosophy does have its place in society and all that like sure it’s good to have a group of people thinking about the nature of things but from an outside perspective sometimes it becomes difficult to understand what philosophers are doing all day. Like at the end of the day what’s the difference between people in Ancient Greece wondering if eyeballs project light and a guy with an iPhone asking if chairs actually exist like at what point will smashing a chair over your head convince you that it’s real by most definitions of that word

also if they did find him with that why would he respond to their arrest with immediate legal defense rather than dignified resignation like the manifesto implies.
So the manifesto has no actual rhetoric or justification and he demures authority and intelligence. No advice or urging for others to do the same. It frames him as alone and unusual in taking his hatred as far as he has. It says there’s no point trying to get into his devices, yup, definitely no reasons for the cops to try to do so because there’s nothing on there which might contradict their story like location data. (How much you wanna bet they disappear from lockup before the trial?)
And it explicitly praises and gives respect to the cops, when while being taken by cops he shouted “It’s completely out of touch! It’s an insult to the intelligence of the American people!”
Yeah okay, this does it, I’m pretty convinced they’re framing an innocent man. No one willing to throw their life away killing a monster and expecting to get arrested for it and their words distributed is actually writing something like this.
