if you have the Honey browser extension installed, uninstall it immediately. big big story broke on youtube today strongly indicating that Honey has been massively defrauding basically everyone who does any business with them at every level, including influencers, customers, and actual retailers.
the short version of ONE of the alleged crimes is that they’ve been hijacking referral links and codes. if you have honey installed on your browser at all, and you use any referral code from anyone, there is a high probability honey will swap out the referral link identifier for their own even if they don’t provide a coupon at checkout.
they also are just lying to you, and hiding coupons that very much exist. they’re completely fraudulent
paypal bought honey in 2019 for 4 billion, so paypal has been strip mining the influencer economy for 5 years now. the amount of money that’s been essentially stolen is unfathomable
I always assumed they would use coupons or codes that would somehow funnel any kind of referral to them?? How is that not obvious. How else would they make money from this?

being an archaeologist in tumblr is so funny because I see so many text posts and go. Imperialism pre-dates capitalism. Rebellion against empires pre-dates capitalism. Money pre-dates capitalism. Social inequality pre-dates capitalism. Misogyny pre-dates capitalism. Wealth inequality pre-dates capitalism. Unilateral rule by oppressive rulers pre-dates capitalism. People’s dependence on their job for their survival pre-dates capitalism. Capitalism as an economic system is about 200-250 years old max but these problems are much, much older, and capitalism supports, entrenches, or exacerbates many of these problems… doesn’t mean it invented them and doesn’t mean they will simply cease to be problems After Capitalism.
I’m wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying “traumatize” when we truly mean “upset”?
I am sick of hearing sad books or movies “traumatize” their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it’s not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.
Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn’t helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.
I’m technically an organ donor but I doubt any of my organs or tissues are in good enough condition to be donated. Imagining the transplant surgeon slicing into my torso and a puff of ominous black spores comes out. They extract my heart and it melts into black goo and drips onto the floor before they can do anything with it. I’m not worried about it because I’ll be dead but I’m sure that would be disappointing.
I do love that our outgoing President with less than 2 months left to be President pardoning his fuck up son of a number of constitutionally questionable charges is getting 200% more coverage and 4 million times as much outrage as the incoming President picking his two daughters’ Father-in-laws for major diplomatic posts they’re in no way qualified for just because they’re members of the family, because he’s a fucking mobster.
legit so annoyed about the way the corporate media wants to paint those women waiting outside the court as crazy and as only being there because Luigi is hot. I looked up pictures of them outside the court and they all held signs and were there to send a message: “health over wealth”, “denial of medical care = violence”, “murder for profit = terrorism”, “the United States healthcare stole my livelihood”, “insurance lobbyists line politicians’ pockets”, “healthcare reform NOW”. Yeah, they’re there because he’s hot for sure. Also, there were a lot of men as well but hey, that’s not helping the narrative right?
sometimes when I’m bored, I go through the list of recent bad faith Wikipedia edits that have since been reverted. a lot of them are politically contentious/offensive topics that attract crazies and trolls in general, but sometimes there are completely innocent inoffensive articles that people attack for no reason. some guy yesterday vandalized the article on the chemical element francium
Francium IS a stupid element. It has a half life of 22 minutes and barely exists at all, only naturally occurring as a product of the extremely rare alpha decay series ²³⁵U ➝ ²³¹Th ➝ ²³¹Pa (𝜷 decay) ➝ ²²⁷Ac ➝ ²²³Fr (1.38% chance). There’s less than a gram of it on earth at any given moment. It has no uses to anybody and it isn’t even the most reactive group 1A element due to relativistic effects fucking up its electron binding energies. Stupid substance.
If you somehow asked a genie to get you a gram of Francium in a sealed vial so you could do an experiment with it, the genie would just give it to you because the enormous amount of radioactivity it produces would instantly vaporize the sample and cook you alive. Absolute dogshit isotope and its synthetic siblings are just the same but worse
one thing i really hate about franchising & production of media under capitalism is how any franchise inevitably becomes completely incestuous, incapable of reflecting or remarking upon anything but itself and its own history
like i don’t like d&d in general, as my posts may indicate, but i do really have a special disdain for d&d 5e–because in my estimation, od&d through 2e are games about being amoral mercenaries plundering dungeons, and 3e through 4e are games about being high fantasy heroes on epic quests–but 5e is first and foremost a game about being “a d&d character” and to me that is the source of so many decisions that make it less interesting and substantial than any of its own predecessors even on its own terms
its nice to see stuff like this because it reminds you that theyre actually the weird ones. their rhetoric just relies on them portraying themselves as “voices of the people” fighting for what no one else will stand up for, despite most people probably thinking their behavior is embarrassing and not worth it. open terfs, racists, nazis, homophobes, misogynists, general transphobes- are all just extremely pissed off and angry minorities that make it everyone else’s problem as much as they possibly can so that they seem bigger than they are. that doesnt mean they arent dangerous, it just means we can win. we’ve got a fighting chance against these losers.
maybe you guys need to learn the difference between sex-repulsed asexuals and sex-negative conservatives. because im getting real sick of reading unnecessarily vaguely worded posts that sound borderline aphobic
“if you think sex is gross/disgusting, you’re a horrible person” sorry but that’s actually a valid ace identity. try again :)
“if you shame other consenting adults for having sex because you think it’s a sin, you’re a horrible person” ok NOW we’re getting somewhere
Incels accuse women of being shallow and then refuse to date anywhere close to within their league. Like no, of course the millionaire supermodel does not want you. You might have had a chance with the sweet girl who works as a cashier at the 7/11 if you didn’t call her a ‘butterface’ and a ‘roastie’ but your personality is so repulsive that you ruined that as well.
straight men have beauty standards for men that are completely different than the beauty standards women and gay men have for men and then they get mad when they conform to the beauty standards other podcast bros set for them and women still don’t find them attractive
while you were busy arguing about phrenology on Twitter, lamenting your weak jawline and making fun of dudes who don’t go to the gym, beautiful fat polyamorous men with nerdy personalities were busy snatching up the baddest bitches in your town. c’est la vie.
hysterectomy should be an informed consent procedure full stop. it should be illegal to deny someone a hysterectomy based on their age or based on them not having kids or based on their spouse/partner not signing off on it. anyone over 18 should be allowed to make that decision.
Waiting at the bus stop and there’s this person playing their music loud on a bluetooth speaker for everyone to hear
Makes me wonder what happens if two people who do that meet, do they both play their music over the top of oneanother? Does the person who was playing theirs first get priority?
honestly whenever I see a trans guy doing the “I have a special connection with girlhood because of my officially female childhood” I mostly end up feeling bad for them
I feel like there’s a lot of assumption that girl childhood is synonymous with misery and boy childhood is synonymous with freedom and a big part of why transgender women are quick to recognize that their life pretransition was not standard is on the basis of it being perpetual suffering and alienation and denial but trans men will often have miserable childhoods and then chalk this up to standard girlhood experience instead of like, specific and targeted alienation on the basis of gender dissonance. People sort of very intuitively process boyhood as something hierarchical in which you can fail at developing into manhood, it’s a very transparent system, but there is little recognition of similar social systems in girls and how young girls are very, very willing and capable of suffocating and hurting those they recognize as nonstandard
a while ago I read this sci-fi short story from the 50s where a guy is kidnapped and interrogated by aliens using a very sophisticated lie detector, but he realizes that the lie detector works off technical truth, and with some careful phrasing and misdirection, he manages to make them believe that humans are a race of immortal, overpowered, omniscient telepathic beings. and it works.
my favorite part is when he tells them that humans are “capable of transportation without the aid of spaceships or any vehicles, just by using mental power to control physical matter”. it’s true, we can. it’s called walking.
okay I found it, it’s The Best Policy by Randall Garrett
and it has other gems such as “I know beyond a shadow of a doubt what every member of my race thinks of you” (they don’t know you exist) and “every human knows exactly as much about the location of your home planet as I do” (nothing)
coding got me saying shit like “target the child” “assign its class” “override its inheritance” like the third wife of a dying oil baron discovering his of-age son born out of wedlock
