wait what is the phishing part? is there some way they could use your opinions on religion to impersonate you or like steal your identity lol?
Phishing scams often open with seemingly innocuous overtures about random topics. In the context of Tumblr bots, this frequently takes the form of a tag you’ve recently used inserted into an otherwise generic template like “I love your opinions about [tag], can I ask you some questions about [tag]”. If you bite, the bot hands you off to a human operator to exploit the conversational foot in the door it’s created.
The funny part (which I’m jokingly calling novel) is that if this is indeed a phishing bot, it picked religion of all things as the recently used tag to employ. Not exactly safe topic for casual discussion!
I still think its the funniest shit ever that when I used to volunteer at planned parenthood every week even though I walked past mostly the same protesters every single time they were begging me not to get an abortion theres other options yadda yadda. Like meemaw you see me here every week. They call me abortions georg because I get another one every Monday at 8am
Sharing this for everyone who stumbles on this post!! Please be safe y'all, def use gloves, mask, and make sure to have good ventilation! Always check the ingredients of your cleaning products before using them together! Please share this so more folks are aware, they literally don’t be teaching us important stuff like this to prepare for the Adult World™
Also don’t mix bleach with anything ammonia based, that gives you mustard gas. Same reason you don’t clean a cat’s litter box with bleach.
Usamericans should be more anti-war actually. They should be straight up insulting marines and shutting down weapon factories, 60s anti-war protests kind of shit. I’m sorry for pontificating from down here but the US military-industrial complex is currently supplying a genocide, and this is not a new thing, the US has sold weapons to Saudi Arabia to starve millions of Yemenis. And though some people think it’s not the point, it Is also true that there are trillions upon trillions of dollars that could be spent in anything else that go to the black hole of corruption (and call it for what it is, corruption) that is the Pentagon. Any of those resources could be destined to literally any other activity and be better spent.
I’m talking full contempt here. You should outright be HATING the military. Instead of lining up to watch Top Gun you should see it as a glorification of a fucking killing machine that serves imperial interests, enriches megacorporations and supports genocided. For the love of God be more angry about it. Goddamn.
It must be nice to live somewhere where the government actually listens to its electorate. Doesn’t quite work like that here, at least on a federal “regulating the military industrial complex” level. We get lip service at best and then they continue to do whatever the fuck they want. Insider trading, blatant corruption, bribery, revolving door lobbying, deregulation, privatization, all performed by people who shamelessly beg for campaign donations for six months out of every two years to Defeat The Evil Bad Guys On the Other Side of the Aisle and then tell us to fuck off the rest of the time while they work together to carve up this country a little smaller for their corporate friends in the name of “centrism” and “bridging the divide” and “national security”. We rioted for six months straight in 2020 and got a photo of rich white people kneeling on the floor of the Capitol in African-styled accessories to show for it. They don’t care about what we think. They don’t care about what we do. They only care if our absence from work affects their stock portfolios.
omg your country has insider trading, corruption and deregulation? i’m so sorry we didn’t consider that. nothing to do there, it’s totally fine to lay down and rot
Yes let me just go ahead and start a revolution against the most purposefully designed “fuck your entire continent up from anywhere on earth with a single ship” military on the planet with the help of my local community gardening collective, everybody knows strong community bonds are the backbone of anarchism, so we can’t lose. Or wait, I know! I’ll vote for the blue party! They’re soooo much better about gleefully enabling genocide because Kamala is #brat! Or even better, I can vote for a third party candidate with zero ideas or plans besides “idk um war is bad”, surely that isn’t a waste of a vote! Kindly put an upright cheese grater between your ass cheeks and go ride a space hopper.
My teacher recommended me a bible website, and it’s the coolest thing ever
Basically, it’s called Catena, and the gist is that for every verse of the bible you can click on it and see commentary from TONS of scholars across the centuries
the funniest part is that it’s formatted like a comment section so it looks like all these massive scholars all got together and commented on the bible
which they did (communion of saints my beloved)
BUT ANYWAYS yeah I just felt that this should be shared with you all :)
my snowflake opinion is that subtitles should always be on by default, and their incorporation should be considered an essential part of the design process tbh
Finnish soldier gets separated from the rest of his unit but he’s the only one carrying the emergency amphetamines for the unit, takes too many and goes on a one man rampage for like 2 weeks straight giving the opposing Soviet soldiers nightmares for decades. Oh and he did it all on skis.
Did he survive?
Yes, during his methed up 2-3 week rampage he got injured by a land mine, travelled 400km on skis, and only ate pine buds and a Siberian Jay that he caught which he ate raw. When he made it back to Finnish lines he was taken to a hospital where it was found his heart rate was nearly 200 beats per minute and his weight had dropped to 43kg (94.7lbs).
His name was Aimo Koivunen if you want to look him up
Those are the eyes of a man who has seen god and laughed
the Germans (or at least this one German dude I knew from a forum back in the 2000s) have a saying: “sie spinnen, die Finnen” that basically means “Finnish people are fucking crazy”. I think it’s also why they’re such legendarily talented rally drivers.
This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author’s personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn’t gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning–she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.
“Why do you want to be a boy when you’re such a pretty girl?” Why do you want to play another game when you already beat the last one? You fucking casual
“Why do they keep coming up with new genders?” Better graphics
Please no spoilers for the neopronouns guys I’m still not done with the original releases
Nature really went off with sperm whales. A 70-ton predator with teeth the size of a banana but it only eats squishy prey that it doesn’t even chew, it just schlorps them down whole like a vacuum cleaner. Big giant fat head full of goop. Tiniest fins in the world. Strong enough to smash a ship to pieces and smart enough to figure out how to do so but its first line of defense is just to shit everywhere. Possibly the most complex language in the animal kingdom and it creates sounds by blowing air through its internal right nostril (it uses the left one to breathe) into its giant fat head. It’s the loudest animal on the planet and might have the capability to create a beam of sound so loud it can shake your organs apart but they don’t seem to use that to hunt or fight. They’re highly flammable. We used them to make candles.
Gravity legally cannot hurt you if you scream “NO GODS NO MASTERS” immediately before impact
I’m so fucking tired of this bicycle helmet discourse. Bike helmets aren’t going to do shit to protect you if you get hit by a car
Most of the time… Bike accidents…. Involve things…. Other than cars…… like the ground….also it’s safety gear….. Wearing it is non negotiable…. You are one accident away from being permanently disabled….. You need to protect your brain
Not towards OP
Is OSHA and other safety regulations also cop behavior?
*sigh* The belief that OSHA and other safety regulations are cop behavior are common opinions that people have, anarchist or not. Wearing PPE is annoying and often uncomfortable, sweaty, and cumbersome. People also generally hate being told to be careful, because they believe that “be careful” is synonymous with “hey, you’re too stupid to do that without hurting yourself”.
But all it takes is one time for you to slip up and suddenly the grinder disk that would have gotten stuck in your safety glasses is in your eye, or you’re getting treated for lung cancer because you didn’t want to wear your respirator while you welded. These are decisions that you were free to make, but might seriously regret later on.
People will scream until they’re blue in the face about how oppressive it is to have to wear a safety vest and hard hat on a construction site, but do you really think that the hammer that slipped out of your buddy’s hand is going to take that into consideration when it collides with your skull?
No political theory will save you from an accident. You can either wear your PPE, or can die, unexpectedly, painfully, and slowly. The choice is yours. Go argue with a lathe if you feel so strongly about it.
Go argue with a lathe if you feel so strongly about it
@breelandwalker it is criminal to leave this scorching point in the tags
a few points:
• every safety rule is written in blood
• OSHA exists so the boss can’t force you to die for their profits. it was started as a result of union action, as a direct response to the triangle shirtwaist factory fire. OSHA is constantly fighting for worker’s rights and protection. whistleblower laws protect any employee who makes an OSHA complaint against their employer, and anyone who reports is guaranteed anonymity and aggressive legal support against retaliation. there is also a separate health and safety administration for miners in the USA called MSHA.
• the people most likely to get hurt on the job are not apprentices or senior workers approaching retirement. the new hire is careful because they’re green, and still learning, and still unfamiliar with the tools and the work. the old hand is careful because retirement is within sight and they want to make it there. the person who gets hurt is usually the journeyman at the peak of their career—in their 30s-50s, an expert at their trade, their tools feel like an extension of themselves, and they’re so comfortable they forget to be careful. they’ve gotten lucky cutting corners or using something incorrectly or taking off a guard or leaving off some safety equipment 1000 times but one day they’re tired or distracted or too comfortable or too confident and the luck runs out.
• some accidents you cannot just avoid with skill, or you have no personal control over them. sometimes you have to trust your coworkers with your life. the big blue crane collapse killed three ironworkers who were on an observation platform, doing other work, far from the crane, with no ability to prevent or escape the collapse. the crane collapsed as a result of being operated despite adverse conditions, despite the normal crane operator refusing to run the crane due to adverse conditions making it unsafe, and was filmed because a safety inspector was recording the violation and attempting to stop it. the operator of the crane got out safely, but three ironworkers who were hundreds of feet away, who didn’t know the crane would be operating despite unsafe wind speeds, and who were trapped in midair anyways with no way to avoid or escape the collapse, and who above all just had to trust that everyone on the job site would be working safely and doing their jobs correctly, died. that footage has been used in every OSHA training i have ever been in.
• every safety rule is written in blood.
• every safety rule is written in blood.
@bishybarnaby your prev tags on this are really Everything and I hope you don’t mind this (I will of course de-post asap if you’d rather I didn’t include them)
Safety rules are always bullshit until you meet a guy with nine fingers or a glass eye. The Deadman switch on that hydraulic press slows you down and your boss bitches about how bad your production numbers are, but your boss isn’t gonna be the one filling out mountains of insurance paperwork with no right thumb because you intentionally disabled a safety feature to speed things up and get them off your back and now worker’s comp won’t cover you because you knowingly violated OSHA regulations and unrecognizably mangled half the bones in your hand. Fuck your boss, fuck their boss, fuck your crusty boomer coworker who thinks “survival of the fittest” means knowingly feeding your employees into a meat grinder to save $0.70 a day.
SAFETY REGULATIONS ARE WRITTEN IN FUCKING BLOOD. THIS APPLIES TO MCDONALD’S COFFEE CUPS JUST AS MUCH AS IT DOES TO INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY JUST AS MUCH AS IT DOES TO DENTAL X-RAYS. DO NOT TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED.
In hindsight it’s very insulting to be told that flunking out of college due to adhd is actually “quite common”
just like, if there’s a history at your institution of disabled kids not being able to make it you realise that’s your fault right. like why don’t you fucking do something about it. i guess they tried to do something about it with me and it failed so they let me go. crazy. nice work. why should we try to do any better.
only 5% of people with adhd who go to college finish a degree. FUCKING. FIVE!!! PERCENT!!!!!!!!!!!
that should disgust and enrage you.
if any other demographic of students had a 95% failure rate, we would be demanding reform and studies to understand why that’s happening
when i was at my first university, trying to get accommodations for my ADHD, they just kept asking me what accommodations i wanted, and refused to answer when i would ask what was available to me. how the Hell am i supposed to know what i can have? what’s available???? also, i don’t know!!!! i’m an adhd sufferer, not a fucking disability expert for the fucking college, unlike you, DISABILITY EXPERT WHO WORKS FOR THE COLLEGE.
but because the us is OBSESSED with making sure no one gets anything “”for free””, she literally would not tell me what my options were until i broke down in tears and asked her why she was refusing to help me. and then she did a big sigh, like i was fucking up her entire career by *checks notes* asking the disability center in my university to help me, a disabled student
at the second uni i went to, i tried to explain to a dean that i was literally two gen eds that had nothing to do with my degree away from graduating and that i was burnt out and broke and exhausted and suicidal and i just needed to be able to finish my degree without the gen eds. and this. fucking. guy. looked me right in my face and said in the most patronizing tone he could muster “if you can’t handle it, then maybe college just isn’t for you.” keep in mind that up until that semester, i had been an honor student who made Dean’s List every semester and didn’t get below Bs. if it hadn’t been for my mental breakdown, i would have graduated cum laude, maybe even summa cum laude.
but this dean of students looked a disabled person right in the face and said well i guess you just can’t do it, short bus
Pulled these from a couple articles really quick but yeah the statistics are not kind. I remember writing a scathing essay about my issues with ADHD and college as part of an assignment for academic probation. I got back an email calling me entitled and lazy. Somehow, this thread helps me feel a lot better. I still have about a semester of school unfinished that I’m unsure if I’ll finish but… yeah. Makes me feel better to know it’s not just me.
Love seeing something from TikTok and going “girlie that is literally what led to the downfall of the Papal States”
Jewish baby named Edgardo Mortara is seemingly about to die in Bologna, 1851
Catholic nanny secretly baptises him to save his soul, which she’s not exactly the kind of authority who can do that, but w/e, it’s interpreted by the church as valid later
Kid survives
1857 her secret gets out, a baptising makes a kid a Catholic according to the Church and a Catholic can’t be raised in a non-Catholic household in the Papal States, so the church authorises the police to kidnap Edgardo from his family
Raised personally by Pope Pius IX, Jewish family not allowed to take him back due to Church doctrine, this action destroys the family with grief and despair
This case gets international infamy with the Pope not understanding why everyone’s shiting on him for doing this, including allies
Emperor Napoleon III shifts from opposing Italian unification to supporting it as a direct consequence
Bologna falls the next year, 1859
Kingdom of Italy forms 1861
By 1870 Rome is lost to the Italians and the Papal States are no more
(Edgardo Mortara goes on to become Father Mortara)
(He dies in Belgium in 1940 three months before the Nazis occupied the nation, which if he’d have lived he would’ve been persecuted as a Jew)
Fun fact: the Catholic Church did not stop doing this after Edgaro Mortara. During WW2, many Jewish children were put in convents or catholic-run orphanages for their own safety. Sounds nice right? Except after the war ended, when parents or surviving relative went back to claim their children, the church went, “uhhh, actually they’re catholic now, no take backs!”
The most infamous of these cases was the Finaly affair. Two Jewish children in France, Robert and Gerald Finaly, were placed in a Catholic nursery in 1944 in anticipation of their parents being deported to Auschwitz, where they were both murdered. Their aunt, Marguerite Fischel, survived the war and went to find the boys so she could take them to live with her. However, the nun who had custody of the boys, Antoinette Brun, adamantly refused to give them up, reportedly saying that “The Jews are not grateful”
What followed was a years long custody battle where despite being repeatedly ordered by courts all over Europe to return the boys, Brun took them to many different countries and hid them, with the support and help of other nuns and priests. It was suspected at the time, and later confirmed by documents released in 2020, that Pope Pius XII had supported the effort to keep the boys away from their surviving family and have them be raised Catholic.
Thankfully, after negotiations between a sympathetic cardinal in France and the chief Rabbi of Paris, the boys were finally recovered and reunited with their aunt.
I wish I could say that the phenomenon of the Catholic Church kidnapping children and keeping them away from their families for the purposes of forcefully raising them Catholic is unique to Jews, but it’s not. From the mid nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century, the Church ran hundreds of residential schools in the US and Canada where indigenous children were kidnapped from their homes and forced into these cruel and inhumane “schools”. The children were forbidden from speaking their own languages or practicing their own cultures and religions, their hair was cut, and they were subject to emotional, verbal, spiritual, physical, and sexual abuse. Many of the children died due to malnutrition or medical neglect, their bodies buried like dogs beside the schools. The Catholic Church was not the only Church to participate in this, but they’ve been the most reluctant to fully acknowledge and apologize for it. It was only in 2022 that Pope Francis apologized on behalf of the Catholic Church for their part, but some people found the apology inadequate.
Idk what my point is here, just that there’s such a clean link between evangelizing, cultural/religious imperialism, and how damaging and horrifying a religion can be when it is thoroughly convinced of its own superiority. And that unless an institution is forced to change, it probably won’t change on its own.
Finally decided to finish this animation that’s based on a dream I had. I’m still figuring things out, so I try to keep it simple. Rather happy with how it turned out though :^)
ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you’re helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can’t. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can’t, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help
Operation Olive Branch has a spreadsheet dedicated to mutual aid, local distro, community kitchens, etc. in Gaza.
This is a good place to start if seeking to donate to a community resilience action. Just contact the group(s) directly to make sure they are still active. Life in Gaza and Palestine is full of uncertainty.
i mean, i wouldnt say its “closest to me” because it is a new love i discovered in adulthood, the desert that has been with me the longest is plain vanilla ice cream
Prosecutors argued that Mangione was carrying about $10,000 in cash and that his bag was a Faraday bag that blocks cellphone signals—all proof that he was a sophisticated criminal who should be held without bail.
“‘I’d like to correct two things,’” Mangione said after the prosecutor finished speaking, according to CNN’s Danny Freeman, “‘I don’t know where any of that money came from—I’m not sure if it was planted. And also, that bag was waterproof, so I don’t know about criminal sophistication.’”
this is what i’ve been trying to say. yes the memes are funny, but leaps and bounds more important than that is Luigi Mangione first and foremost is in danger.
while he is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law, far too many people have jumped on the idea of him being the shooter because it’s funny. however. there are a few key things i personally need to point out.
the NYPD fucking sucks. no bones about it. they are a legitimately bad police force. they are deeply corrupt and losing public value.
they allegedly found him with the gun and a full manifesto on his person just sitting in a mcdonalds. why in sweet fuck would anybody able to pull off that kind of murder and then evade the police for days just be carrying that around with him??
just. think critically for 30 seconds about any and all media surrounding this case that you read, and especially remember that the public opinion, while it isn’t necessarily supposed to be, is influential in court cases.
I am once again asking all of you to look at minecraft skins dot net because the people on there are fucking hilarious. who up rockin wit mid times with scar
